Bryston future products

No harddisc and no streamer no display, no CD player or ripper, no fans - it will be a state of the art high resolution (44.1 to 192/24Bit) dedicated digital file player that connects through the AES-EBU input on our BDA-1 External DAC. All in one music servers have serious issues with noise and distortion so we are going to separate the 'digital processing' (playing music files) from the 'data management', (storage and handling etc.).

I did something similar and went the SACD route for hi rez playback and bought an Esoteric X-05 three months ago. If I had known this was coming I would have gone with a BCD-1 and BDA-1. To make matters worse I have already spent a couple hundred on new SACD's. Rats!

I do get the no harddisc, no display, no CD-Player, no fans part, but where does the music come from then? Does it have an ethernet or USB port? Does it build on a dedicated server/application that does the file handling and sends the files to the digital media player that does some decoding and sends it to an D/A converter via AES/EBU???

Hi Markus,

Yes a USB thumb drive (CD of the future) or hard wired Ethernet connection from dedicated music server.

Nice idea - USB thumb drive with Bryston Logo!

I want to make the Player match exactly the dimensions of the DAC as I see that as a serious combo as well as the Preamp combo.

2) you said that the player will be connected via digital xlr with the BDA-1. other inputs as well except usb and xlr ?

Hi Alex,

You can use a USB as a drive - thinking 2 connections on the back 1 on the front. Or you can use a hardwired Ethernet connection and a dedicated music server.

Will this device be "slaved" to the DAC (i.e. the DAC's clock is the sole clock in control)? Thinking of jitter reduction.

Hi Aaron,

No slaving at this point although the jitter numbers I am measuring on the player are incredibly low.
