I would think if some can be found they would qualify for this shootout.

Actually by this years guide lines that speaker doesn't qualify either. I did the crossover design for that one too.

Tyler Acoustics D3

Another great speaker, but I designed that one too. A lot of it anyway (drivers, crossovers and some cabinet details).

I'd personally love to see Danny's new OB and the Hawthorne Sterling Duets/Trios...

One other thing not announced yet is that I have had communications with Darrel Hawthorne that could well lead to some collaboration and design work with him and his company.

So considering the anticipation of a professional relation with me on some future projects Darrel has decided to pass on the shoot out since I am hosting it.

Terrific news, Danny.  Can't wait to hear what comes of the collaboration.

Hi,

I don't too sound negative, I suspect, the major players like Proac, Dynaudio, Devore etc., will not participate, they have more to lose than gain from this shootout.

Hey Danny,
Even though you are hosting this, I personally would be more than comfortable to see your speakers in this shootout and would really like to hear how they compare in type of competition.
Is there any chance that if enough people were happy for you to compete that you would/ might reconsider?
Failling that, could / would you may be do a 2nd shootout with one (or two, or three.....) of your designs compared to the winner?

An interesting comparison speaker might be the Paradigm Monitor 9 floorstander.  Price is $949/pair.

Received a very good review in TAS this month.

Sorry. I didn't do that last time and still won't.

It was bad enough last year when the Skiing Ninja entered a tricked out version of a speaker that I designed for AV123 and it creamed everything.

I know, I am only lending the use of my facility and have nothing to do with the listening or judging. We even had the editor of StereoMojo here last time to oversee the whole thing. But it can still look a little suspicious to some when the guy that hosts the event designed the winning speaker.

Raw Acoustics entered a speaker that I designed for them that did real well too. It may have been third or forth best according to the judges. It would have really looked bad if those two would have gotten 1st and 2nd.

I just really don't want to go there again.

Only if it were hosted somewhere else.

Sounds like you need to stop hosting so your designs can cream the competition properly. :green:

I agree with the previous suggestions from the usual suspects/favorites on AC, but I do hope that StereoMojo adds in some typical "mid-range" audio store offerings like Dali, Paradigm, KEF and to round things out.

something like:
Dali ikon 7  ~$2600 retail
KEF XQ30    ~$3000 retail
Paradigm Studio 100  ~$3000 retail
or even top of the line Polks LSi25s  ~$2800

Paradigm Studio 100  $2400
http://www.paradigm.com/en/reference/fronts-studio-studio100-model-2-13-1-29.paradigm
±2 dB from 44 Hz - 22 kHz
1" tweeter and four 7" drivers
I think this makes a good reference as they are easy to audition locally, at least in SoCal, and they sound pretty good.
I use the word "reference" as a point for comparison, not as some ultimate design.
I suppose a Polk design could work for this as they are even more ubiquitous, but I think the 100s are better.

Salk Song Towers QWT $1795
http://www.salksound.com/SongTower.shtml
42Hz to 20,000Hz +/- 3db.
MTM with two 5" drivers
I have never heard a QWT, so these really interest me.

Odyssey Lorelei $2500
http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-lorelei.html
32-22,000 Hz
1" tweeter, 6.8" midwoofer

Guys,

Some great recommendations so far. Keep them coming. Just a reminder - no kits or DIY and they must be floorstanding speakers that retail (not on-sale prices) for $3,000 or less. Since danny is hosting AND measuring the speakers, anything he is even remotely associated with is eliminated. We have to avoid any conflict of interest. So far, from all sources, the Salk Song Towers are in first place. I hope Jim will participate. danny - you didn't have anything to do with those did ya?

Nope, not those.

Yea, I think you'll find that companies like those and including the Paradigm suggestions will all be in that boat. If you guys want to see some of those in the mix then you might have to talk an owner into sending them over.

I nominate the Axiom M80v2 unless that is disqualified because Danny measured the M80Ti recently (he didn't do anything but measure them).
