I use a high output Grado Sonata on my Mørch UP-4 red dot.  The combination sounds very nice and I love the juxtaposition of the sleek chrome tonearm and the wood body cartridge.

what's the difference between medium and high compliance carts?

It has to do with what the resonant frequency in the cart is going to be. I just personally read a ton of information on it. Here is a good overview:
