In Progress Cabinet for Neo2x
« on: 8 Mar 2009, 12:14 am »
I thought I would post a pic of my Cabinet being built. I went with John at http://www.diyspeakercabinets.com/. I wanted to go with something like the curly maple but I just went with plain old black. Here is a shot I was sent today primed.

They look a little nicer with the satin topcoat.

Your new cabinets look very nice. Noticed the the front vertical edges appear to have a very narrow radius. Looks like either 3/8" or 1/2". Do you happen to know the exact radius?

Nope but I can find it out and post back or maybe John will step in and post.

The woofer takes up most of the width of the front baffle. If you were to use a large radius, there would be no room for the grill frame. You could make the front a little wider to accomodate a larger roundover, or leave the grill out altogether. But Chip was rather specific about the cabinet being the same dimensions as the drawing, while having the general shape of these:

It's only a 3/8" radius.

Thanks for answering John.

I have all the parts for the crossover now and will hopfully have them done this weekend. I installed the No Rez in one of the cabinets last night and will be starting on one of the crossover most likely tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply. One other question if you don't mind. From the picture it looks like the cabinet may have been veneered and then painted. Is this correct or is just painted MDF?

Wow, you have good eyesite. The top has veneer on it, to prevent the mdf joints from showing through the paint. The rest of the box is painted mdf.

Anyone know if the 8 small screws that come in this package go to the cup binding post or the tweeter & faceplate?

If they go to the binding post how do you hold the tweeter to the faceplate?

The 8 really short (like 3/16") Phillips head ones are for holding the BG tweeters to their mounting rings.

Seth,

Thanks for the heads up. I thought so but wasn't 100% sure. Now I have my boxes together but the tweets aren't playing.

If your tweeters are not playing,it could be just a loose connection somewhere.Suggest that you re-check all crossover wiring connections and solder joints. I have a question. Did you go with the Sonicap, JPS,and No-Rez upgrade options or just the standard kit parts? Also, would you please post your impression of how the Neo-2X's sound once you finish them?

Nice!

That red speaker in the above pic, what is that and did you finish it? I like that look.

If you upgrade nothing else, get the no-rez. It will make your 3/4" cab sound like 1.25" material.

Would No Rez make 1.25 mdf sound like 2.5 mdf?
