Josh, are you getting one?  Wouldn't it be a hoot for us to do a shootout between one of these, one of the John Booz cutting boards I've got, and the Mapleshade solid maple platforms?  (and probably quite pathetic, too!  But as you know, I'm up for anything when it comes to audio tweaks...)

Thanks Josh, I'll be getting some too. I read in mapleshade's catalog that you want to get a platform a few inches bigger than the component you plan to put on top of it. Has anyone heard of this, or is someone just trying to sell me a more expensive piece of wood? :?

Nice lead on these.  I have been watching two platforms up for auction ending tonight on Audiogon.  What are you guys going to use on the bottoms, spikes?  Where is the best place to get some brass spikes.  I'd like to add something besides field points when I pick up a few of these.  Thanks Joe

Hey Josh,

Thanks for the lead.
I need to get a couple of 'homework stations' for the kids.
The school desks look great, especially for the price.

Anyone looking to do the Mapleshade style set up with pads > platform > cones > component might be interested to see these links.

Good deal on Isolation pads

interesting cones

I am less certain about the cones but for the price I thought I would give them a shot.  I really like being able to level with cones, makes them much more useful I feel.

Brass Spikes
We have some Brass cones/spikes available for $35 per 4 piece set, that most people use for these platforms. They include discs for placing the tips on furniture or wood floors and the kits also include mounting parts  to mount threaded studs into the wood, an then thread the cones onto the studs....Personally we like Granite, but you can't beat the price of wood!!
Here's the link.   http://www.verastarr.com/pages/661947/index.htm

Paypal is accepted with no fee, and we include free shipping by Priority Mail..
Cheers!

The ones I use are from Grainger (industrial supply store).   Do a search for "vibration isolation pad" on www.grainger.com  ....

If it is Pads you want, we have highly researched audio polymer pads for $25 for a 4 piece set.  The cones are good for putting Monoblocs on the carpeted floor...
Cheers!!
