I bought the power supply and have been using it for the last few days.  I'm noticing better dynamics with the new PS, it's just better overall....pretty cool for not much money.

The Duet and Valabs DAC is a really good combination for only $550 total outlay, it's surprising me (in a good way) every day, when a song comes on via the random function that I've not heard through this combo yet.  Even MP3s sound pretty good...

Can somebody tell me what the size is for the plug on the Duet?  It seems to be an odd size.

I would prefer to not cut the plug off of the wall wart to use with my power supply.  I found a rather massive Acopian A9MT1000 10 amp power supply at the auction site for $9.99.  Should have plenty of reserve power.

Switchcraft 760 fits the Squeezebox. I never tried it on Duet though. This plug is a common size so check it first if you think the Duet plug is a weirdo. I think it is the same, but I don't wanna lead you astray.

I'm reasonably certain I bought a plug for the Duet receiver at Radio Shack so it can't be too oddball. Unfortunately, I don't remember the part number...

The Switchcraft plug is much higher quality then the one from  Ratshack.

Undoubtedly, but the RS connector is certainly serviceable and available locally (most places) in the US.

Regardless, the connector spec for the Duet receiver is: "Connector: 1.05mm ID, 3.5mm OD, 7mm long" Listed on the SlimDevices page HERE, scroll down to the "Power" section...

I can confirm that the Radio Shack Adaptaplug "I" (273-1712) does work well in my Duet.  The specs given for it are 1.1 mm I.D. and 3.8 mm O.D.

I also think this plug http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=CP3-1002-ND from Digi-Key looks like it would be a winner.

Here's a very low cost alternative for those of you still sitting on the fence :  http://www.dealsurprise.com/inactodcpoad.html. Of course, you'll need to remove the supplied connector and put on the proper connector. The one previously linked (above) from digikey is the one that I have used with good results.

I just received three of these linear wall warts last week. I bought one for a friend, one to try with the Duet, and one for a spare. There's always some gadget around the house that needs a 9V power supply.

I'll try to get one hooked up to the Duet in the next few days and report back. Right now I'm using the little Mastech benchtop power supply, so that's what I'll compare it to. I was hoping to run the wires from the wall wart to a little project box with a power switch and a filter cap.

So many projects, so little time . . . . .

(Edit : I realize now that I used the word "linear" and caused some confusion. My apologies. This wall wart is linear in the sense that it is not a switching power supply. However, it does not have a linear regulator, or a switching regulator. It is unregulated.)

What makes you think that wall wart has a linear regulator?  I can't find anything online for that part number that indicates a linear regulator and this (pretty lame) ebay auction says switching - http://cgi.ebay.com/INTERACT-AC-ADAPTER-120VAC-TO-9VDC-1000mA-MULD48091000_W0QQitemZ370105377534QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item562bffe2fe&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A8|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

Did you pop open one of the ones you bought to take a look?

Plug In Class 2 Transformer, and very heavy for it's size. This is not a a paper weight switching power supply.

It's not regulated. I plugged it in to the wall and I measured 12 Volts at the connector. So, that's 12 volts with no load and 9 volts if you draw an amp. That seems typical of an unregulated supply. It' will probably be somewhere close to 9 volts with the Duet hooked up to it because the duet draws about 40 percent of its capacity. I'll let you know for sure when I have time to get it hooked up next week.

I'm not worried about it being unregulated or producing a little more than 9 volts because the Duet already has regulators inside. I run my bench top power supply at 9.6 volts DC without any issue to the Duet.

I'll keep you posted . . . .

Ok, I don't want to recommend something and then leave you all hanging. That's not fair. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I cut the connector off of my wall wart and just twisted the wires to the wires going to my Duet connector. Everything seems to be working fine.

I measured the voltage between the wall wart and the duet (where the wires are twisted). There's 10.5 volts going to the duet in the "OFF" mode and 10.3 when it's ON and playing music.  I honestly don't know if that is too much voltage for long term use. I asked Logitech what the maximum DC input could be a while ago, and they wouldn't tell me. Because of that, I don't feel comfortable recommending this as a drop in solution for all of our readers. Perhaps a cheap starting point for the guy who would like to run this wall wart to a little project box. The project box could have an on/off switch, a few filter caps, and maybe a voltage dropping resistor. That's what I had planned to do with it anyway. It was just for fun, and maybe to get my bench top power supply back on the bench. In hind site I should have just bought another Mastech supply.

I hope this post was more helpful than harmful. I'll let my Duet cook with 10.3 volts for the day and I'll let you know if any harm was done. Hopefully next week I'll have time to finish what I started.

Since it's unregulated and putting out 12VDC unloaded, a simple LM317 (or similar) regulator circuit should also work pretty well.

Well,,,,,, no harm was done to my Duet at the higher voltage of 10.3V. It worked fine all day Saturday and again today with the Mastech set to about 9.4 volts. Just a little FYI, FWIW, etc.

Still, I think it only makes sense to keep it as close to 9V for the long run unless someone else wants to chime in and explain what's inside and how much it can take. (I haven't popped mine open yet and I don't really plan to.) So, scrap the unregulated wall wart idea unless your prepared to do something with it before you plug it into the Duet.

Hope you all did something nice for your Mom today.  :D

That is a bargain and exactly like the one I bought from Altex for twice as much.

Kirk Where do you find this DAC? Sounds worth trying for the price. Is this it?

I just purchased a SB Duet which should be delivered this week and want to purchase one of these PSUs.  I'm not very DIY knowledgable--can someone please link me to the exact cable/plug I'll need to connect it to the SB?  I'd like to order them together and I also don't want to cut my origional one.

Thanks,  I'm looking forward to playing with this thing.  It will feed a Sabre32 DAC (eventually).

Would this do?
