Well the amp came today. I guess I expected it to be fully enclosed, but no, the back is wide open. No problem is you build it into a box sub, but what about the OB setups? Just build a box of some sort for the amp itself seems obvious, but I'm curious to see how some of you have implemented your solutions. Pics please if you have them.

I don't have any pics at the moment, but I simply built a small box out of mdf for the plate amp.

It sits on the rack, with the other gear, and longer speaker cables run out to the subs.

If you build a U baffle, the amp could be put into one of the sides of the container.

Hawthorne Audio builds enclosures for the Rhythmic plate amps.  It looks nice to me, especially if you can match the enclosure (or baffle in the case of OB).

Can you guys tell me how much hum there is from the plate amp itself, not through it's outputs, which I'm sure are close enough to silent, but how much hum you hear from the amps powered up with no source, and your ear next to the plate amp in a silent room ion the middle of the night?

Every plate amp I've seen has some hum, even great ones, it's no problem at all of course and I'm sure these are no different with humming a little, just curious how much? Subjective I know, but can you give me an idea?

That box looks good and is very similar to what I will be doing with this new open baffle kit that I am about to release.

Looking at that pic though, I only see one set of binding posts. For the servo sub amp there needs to be 4 of them.

With this kit, I will be supplying a 4 pole SpeakOn connector. So you can come straight out of the box with the wiring using a nice looking braid or something and go right into the SpeakOn.

Thanks Danny. They must be pretty quiet then! It's it's only in my insulated room late at night when all is silent that I notice it. Every other component in my system is battery powered/silent so it's good to hear that this plate amp is quiet too.

Danny, any time frame on your enclosure? Will you be selling it as a separate item? I wouldn't need one made out of fancy stained hardwood. I'm going to make my baffles out of MDF, seal them, and finish w/ black truck bed liner. I could do the same w/ the amp box.

Yeah, I wondered about the single set of terminals too. However, are terminals needed? Couldn't one just solder push tabs to the speaker wire and use the existing connectors on the pigtails?

Enclosures for the sub amp can be ordered from Eric Stegall (Eargasm).

If you are going to make your own baffles then you should be able to make a box for the amp to fit into.

There is half of a dozen ways that one can make the amp removable from the speaker.

I haven't contacted them but one of their customers recently sent me one of their drivers to have a look at. That might be the connection that they are thinking about. I get tons of e-mails every day and my e-mail server doesn't ever get full.

Well Danny, you're right, if I can do the baffles, I can do the box. But you've got to factor in 3 jobs, school and inherent laziness.  So I was looking for an EZ solution.

Huh, I am curious what you think.  Pretty much all my speakers now (exept for some junk ones I use on testing unknown equipment) have some of your work or Hawthorne's.
