Glad to hear the shows are good!  11/18 Cobo show will be my first since 2000.  The whale sound  loop better be GONE!

Glorious weekend of music  :thumb:

Care to elaborate??

I am starting to make my way through the shows and will comment once I have listened more intently.

I will in a few days. I've been sick since Monday morning and haven't even had a chance to listen to the tapes - hell I haven't even gotten out of bed yet, except to puke a few times.

Glad to hear the shows are good!  11/18 Cobo show will be my first since 2000.  The whale sound  loop better be GONE!

the digital delay loop made a brief appearance on Friday (I think), first time I've heard it since 2000

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.

I made it through about half of Exile on my drive this morning and it is amazingly good. I can hear so much meaning in the lyrics and music and understand even deeper now why they chose it.
The addition of the vocal coach has paid off in spades and this voices sound more controlled and expressive than I have ever heard them. I can easy see Tumbling Dice and/or Torn and Frayed finding their way into the rotation. I look forward to listening more on my drive home.

Easily the best Loving Cup ever

Thanks, I'm slowly getting better and did some listening for the first time this afternoon. The "Shine A Light" damn near brought tears to my eyes and the lyrics to "Torn and Frayed" really hit home. Like you said, I can understand lyrically why the band chose this album.

I did a little write up on my blog,
http://steampoweredopinions.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-halloween.html

the meat of my post...

The band played eight sets over three days, each better than the next. The weather was stunningly beautiful all weekend highs in the upper 80s everyday and a nice desert cool down in the evenings. The Phish crowd has grown up and matured since 2004 when the band broke up. No spun dread-locked hippies passed out in the road this weekend... okay maybe one or two. People are clearly partying and enjoying themselves but it's not a neo-hippie traveling Cancun Spring Break scene anymore.

Musically the band will never be what they were in 1997, 1994, 1993 or whatever year it is that fans believe was the epitome of Phish. That's ok though, so long as they are clearly rehearsing, creating interesting new music and (perhaps most importantly) having fun together on stage it will still be a worthwhile musical experience. They are creating very good and very worthwhile music every single night. The baseline is back up a respectable level - when they have an off night, and they have always had off nights, it will still be a good and mostly well-played show. Based on what I saw this weekend when they are on they can play as well as they ever have.

I won't do a blow by blow of every night but the highlights for me included,

    * "Stash" from set I on 10/30
    * "Wolfman's Brother"->"Piper" from Set II on 10/30
    * "Runaway Jim"->"Possum", "Run Like an Antelope" from Set I on 10/31
    * All of the Stones set on 10/31
    * All of Set III on 10/31, even the slow "When the Circus Comes to Town" was well placed
    * All of the acoustic first set on 11/1
    * "Rift", "Guelah Papyrus" and "Split Open and Melt" from set II on 11/1
    * "Tweezer"->"Maze", "Mike's Song"->"2001"->"Light"->"Slave To the Traffic Light" from set III on 11/1

I really have very, very few musical complaints about the show. There were a few flubs and a couple of songs I could have done without but when they band plays 96 songs in 3 days it's hard to complain too much.

Ya'll tried out the HD FLAC's??? Is the recording on these worth the little bit of extra dough?
Would def love to hear the acoustic set in high-rez! Was thinking of purchasing today...

Listening back through the boards tonight for the first time on the big stereo.

The Friday show is better than I remember. Solid 3.0 Phish. Good warm up for the weekend.

Saturday has been playing all weekend on the ipod/bose upstairs so it didn't get a replay today.

Sunday though is remarkably good, particularly the second electric set. Acoustic set has some rough edges but I can't complain. The acoustic McGrupp is really tight, best tune of the set and not just because it is a "name" song - they nailed it.

First electric set has a few flubs (the Reba one is terrible) but the song selection in the set is great. The second electric set though is (.)(.)  Tweezer->Maze is fantastic, Free is a bit short but rages. After hating Sugar Shack the first time I heard I now think it's a great tune. The major key solo from Trey still grates on me a bit but they have this song down tight now - Fishman's even throwing in some cool accents. Theme, Mikes->2001->Light->Slave... dear lord. Hot set, I could take or leave Limb By Limb but everything else is fantastic. I have seen Grind 3 times this year plus the debut in 98 ::) but great recovery with Esther (which I had called that day) and tweeprise. Nice to not see them wimp out with a Waste or Contact encore but instead send us home with a rager.

Hoping they tighten things up a bit on fall tour, I think Red Rocks (last shows I saw prior to 8) were on the whole tighter. For a band that had been off the road for 10 weeks prior to this and learning/rehearsing "Exile" with 5 other musicians in that time they played really, really well.

What a great fucking year, I have had more and more fun at each successive run that I've made - Hampton, Red Rocks, 8.

Curtain With and McGrupp from the acoustic set were my highlights, really moving/emotional stuff for me.

I had a great time at this fest, have you guys seen that they are posting fan mixes done at the House of LivePhish, check them out:

Let's hope they do this again next year!

Seven Below- Albany
Ghost- Albany, although I really like Hartford and Jones Beach too
DWD- Bonnaroo, others have said Shoreline was really good too but I haven't heard it
Gin- Gorge by a mile
Backwards Down the Number Line- Chicago and SPAC
Drowned- Jones Beach and Red Rocks
46 Days- Merriweather
Twist- Jones Beach
Antelope- Gorge
Rock and Roll- Gorge and SPAC
Sneaking Sally- not much competition but the Gorge version must be heard!
YEM- Albany and Fenway

Final list, burned to a DVD and being distributed for the Holidays - thanks for all of your help. 116 tracks in total. I tried to keep it to the best version(s) or the rare bustouts. It's not a note perfect collection by any means but I think it does touch on the majority of the "best of the year" plus some other stuff that I just really like  ;D

3 YEMS - Roo, 8, MSG
2 Tweezers - Red Rocks, Cinnci
3 Ghosts - Red Rocks, Hartford, Albany
both of the Drowned's made the cut, somewhat based on their placement within the set/jam.

I grabbed the board and Taylor's 4 channel schoeps from last night. We're staying home this evening so I've got some listening to do  8)
