Did somebody mention "Class D"???  :) :)

Based on my experience with the Fusion amplifier, there is no doubt that class D is now on equal level with the best conventional analog amplifier designs.  Wayne's criticisms are now outdated.

One key reason why Class D now sounds so good is that designers have figured out how to push the switching frequency much higher than before.  My amp switches at 500 kHz, and 750 kHz with the clock upgrade.  Intermodulation Distortion from this frequency is negligible, ...

Agreed that most of the early teething problems have been ironed out, but what I've heard of the latest crop, class D still cannot match better analog designs for their treble.

As for the argument that switching has been moved to 500 kHz and over, it is only partly valid; RF is still capable of plyaing funnies with audio gear, and it is far above the 500 kHz mark. Hence, while 500 kHz is incomparably better than early 30-40 kHz marks, it seems it is still not enough.

But that class D is making large steps forward in a good direction, of that there is no doubt to my mind. I have said on this forum and elsewhere that I believe class D to be the future we are heading for. It will still take time to iron out completely, though.

Cheers,
DVV

always good to get an impartial viewpoint  :P

Wow, Jerry quits the State Department and joins the Pentagon, Nuclear Strike dept.

Why's that, Jerry? Is it because somebody dares to compare digital to tubes?

What are these most strange comments from Nate and Josh, inferring you were involved in a fist fight with somebody, somewhere?

Cheers,

No, it's just that Jerry is always so moderate and can't-everybody-get-along-like and then he goes and busts Kevin for the blatant marketspeak.  Sweet.  That's nice to see.

Don't know about any fistfights, but I think Jerry has slaughtered at least one pheasant.  Butcher!

Well, the man's got a family to feed.

Hey Jerry, don't let the negativists among us get you down.

Nate's disposition is no bag of sweets, either, and Jack can be ornery when the beer isn't cold.

I figured it out. I visited Jman over the weekend and his nasties must've rubbed off on me. But c'mon now,  Kevin knows I was just teasing.

Describe the room & all the equipment including cables, & the best A or AB you found "equal" to the Fusion Amp.  Was it your room or someone else's?  IMO, with all due respect, without the above information, your statement is meaningless at best & misleading at worse.  That is just my opinion, 2c worth & not even that.

In my rig, most or all audiophiles would prefer the Ampzilla AB amps over the Spectron Musician II.  Of ourse I don't know what your Fusion amp sounds like but would love to hear it.  What is the price?

This is a comment we would all do well to remember, because it's ever so true, and we all tend to forget to mention these most relevant factors.

For example, my own room, the one I was relegated to (by local terrorists, wife and son, but which still beats the garbage bin  Should I call in Dubya?) is small - app. 13x9 feet, and contains a fair amount of furnishing. Carpet on the floor, drapes along the 2/3 windows (window takes 2/3 of room length). Worse, the architecture is such that I must use 2x20 feet of speaker cable, because I sit on one end and the speakers are at the other end. Hence my use of hefty van den Hul 352 Hybrid cables (2x256 strands of silver plated OFC copper mixed with carbon fibre, current capability over 200 amperes).

To play right in that room, the speaker really has to be something. It is ruthless in exposing anything wrong, and the power to show it up is there, 2x180W/8 ohms. About the only living thing happy with that room is my tomcat, Nosy, who slides in, kinda drops into the armchair and sleeps off a wink or two (2-4 hours; that cat knows how to live!).

Cheers,
DVV

I think this is the offshoot thread that resulted from my heated and locked "Help me pick a 2ch amp" originally posted in the Starting Block.

After all the flamethrowing I ended up going with the Cayin TA-30 tube amp, thanks for all the input.
