ANNOUNCING New Bryston SST²(squared) Amplifiers
« on: 11 Dec 2008, 10:46 pm »
    Memo: To All Bryston Distributors/Dealers
    Subject: New Bryston SST²(squared) Amplifiers

    January 2009

Based on our research in designing the Bryston 28B-SST Mono power amplifier we have decided to include these performance advancements in a new series of Bryston amplifiers.

All our newer designed power amplifiers will now be designated the Bryston SST² (squared) Series. We will be debuting these new SST² amplifiers at the January 2009 CES Show.

The front panel power switches as well as the rear panel serial numbers will have the squared (²) symbol as part of the model/serial number.

     EX: (28B-SST²),  (7B- SST² ), (4B-SST² ) - etc.

Depending on the specific amplifier model advancements include:

    New power supply transformer design
    New push on/of power switch
    New chassis design
    New Soft-Start Circuit
    New Balanced input stage
    New Power Supply board.
    Bridging mode performance improvement
    Reduced point to point wiring
    Reduced circuit board count
    Redesigned output chokes

We do not anticipate any price increases over the next few months.

    Sincerely,
    James Tanner,
    Bryston Ltd.

    Hi James,

thats nice to know. Does that mean, Bryston will be offering upgrades from now on directly to SST 2 from ST and SST?

    Thank you.

    Hi David,

We will be using the new Thiel CS2.4SE Signatures -(http://www.thielaudio.com/) in one room.

Also we will be doing a special presentation with Magnepan in their room using 28B's, BP26, BCD-1, plus Torus and introducing a new Magnepan Mystery System!

    Hi Adrian

They look identical to the SST except for the power switch on the front having a small '2' in it.

    Hi 99

OK -good news 7BSST's with serial numbers starting at "001563" are in fact SST² (squared) versions.

Ok, dumb question here (sorry): Why the "squared" in SST² ?  Was it a purely random name-tag change, or is there a technical significance to the "squared" name, relating to the product redesign?  :)

    Hi NewBuyer,

No hidden messages - just wanted to maintain the SST name but differentiate it in some way.

Man, this forum can be dangerous.     I guess I'm not worthy enough to have the "2"  but I happy  now.
