Given the diversity of taste, I wonder what the OP meant by 'Intelligent Electronic Music'?  Do people really consider pounding beats and THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP hypnotic trance music to intelligent?

It's actually "IDM". Not sure I like the term, but here's an explanation.

By "electronic music" do you mean the real McCoy? If you want real electronic music---the best there is---go back to the source in the 50s 60s 70s--Karlheinze Stockhausen (Gesang der Jurnglinge), Mario Davidovsky (Synchronisms) , Luciano Berio (Visage or Omaggio Joyce), Edgar Varese (Poeme Electronique).

guys,

The OP, mvwhiting_83, has "gone fishn" or started an Intelligent Electronic Music group himself, because after the first post he never reappeared.

I raised the genre question last year. Even without his presence, lots of interesting variations on Intelligent Electronic Music: from Classic Progressive Rock to jangley guitars to old school moog synth instrumental soundscape music.

To me, the key is in the example bands he listed: The Knife, Yello, 7, and Trentmoller.

the knife: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617ANIA5Rqs

yello: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGopZjakUeA

7- I couldn't find/don't know which one?there are a dozen Seven/7 bands.

Trentemoller; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rvj3bQtDbQ

....those samples gives a more of a clue than the actual genre name. But again, the OP is long goooooooooooooooone.

According to his profile the last time he checked in was 2 weeks ago on April 27.  Even if he hasn't posted anything in a while, that doesn't mean he hasn't been reading this thread.
