Thanks to KCI-JohnP for the Silkworms...

I just wanted to give a belated thanks to KCI-JohnP.

John sent us out some of his Silkworm interconnects to use in both of our rooms at the RMAF. He also sent a couple of his new power cords to try.

I first tried his interconnects last year (2007) at RMAF and preferred them over my reference home brew for the show. So I had no reservation about using them again.

I took all the cables home with me after the show and finally got a chance to use them in my own system and really A/B them with other interconnects that I had on hand.

These cables are pure gold in a silk sleeve. At first you can't help but think "Gold?" Gold isn't even that great of a conductor right? It has near the same conductivity of Lead. Trust me though. It works, and works well.

I'd have to say that these are more neutral than just about anything out there. They have a natural tonal balance that doesn't allow any one thing to stick out. It keeps everything in harmony and in place.

Listening to an acoustic guitar using my latest home brew cables in comparison to the Silkworms, I got the feeling that my cables (Continuous caste Copper in a low capacitance geometry and temperature treated) gave a little more presence to the upper levels of the guitar. It had a little greater pop of the strings. But in comparison to the Silkworms it was at the expense of a little more body of the guitar. The Silkworms allowed a little more of a natural balance, and allowed the guitar to sound more like a real instrument.

While the Silkworms might not be cheap they are certainly very good and easily on par with the best of the best. System synergy is everything and they may not be the best for all applications, but as neutral as these are I can't see them being bad in any application. Unless someone is looking for a tuning device to correct for a system issue I can't imagine anyone not liking these.

If you have a really high end system and you aren't afraid to spend a few bucks to make the most of it, then you might want to give these a try. I don't endorse too many products very often (almost never). I know this sounds like one and for good reason.

Best of luck with these John.

Hmmm....maybe that's why I have so much trouble with a millivolt mercury switch thermostat on a heater???  Mercury's electrical conductivity is 1.6% of copper's.

Not sure of the purpose of the above post??? :dunno:

Hi Danny,

Sorry for my absence, have been sick with the Flu or something nasty. Not sure what it is but whatever it is it sucks! Anyway, thank you for the kind words on the cables, I'm glad you enjoyed them and hope I was able to help you out for RMAF. Happy(belated) Thanksgiving!!

Best,
John

John is a fantastic fella. He sold me several feet of hookup wire which is just a step down from the wire he uses in his Silkworm interconnects. I think the wire is very similar to the Mandarina wire. The Mandarina interconnect is on my short list, just as soon as I rearrange some of components (some buying and selling is in order).

I'm in Houston celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday here at the moment. I went to the Rennaissance festival as well which was really great. The Lone star state definitely knows how to party like they did in the 16th century.

Happy holidays,

Anand.

John is a good guy and a gracious host.  I was at his house here in Austin for a Lone Star Bottlehead meet a year or so ago.

More conductivity:
Shiner Bock:  88.3
Tequila:  107

I've been away for a bit(was just tired, worn out and the holidays didn't help either) and forgot about this thread, sorry to revive it but just wanted to say thanks for the support! I appreciate it guys, thank you!

Anand,
Whoa, I've been wondering about you. How is the preamp coming along? Any pics of that baby? Let's see em!

The preamp is next in line. I'm currently working on a differential class A EL34 based amplifier, and guess what? The wire you sent me will be used for the input/output wiring.

I'll send you pics and details when done (by April).
