I just wanted to give a belated thanks to KCI-JohnP.
John sent us out some of his Silkworm interconnects to use in both of our rooms at the RMAF. He also sent a couple of his new power cords to try.
I first tried his interconnects last year (2007) at RMAF and preferred them over my reference home brew for the show. So I had no reservation about using them again.
I took all the cables home with me after the show and finally got a chance to use them in my own system and really A/B them with other interconnects that I had on hand.
These cables are pure gold in a silk sleeve. At first you can't help but think "Gold?" Gold isn't even that great of a conductor right? It has near the same conductivity of Lead. Trust me though. It works, and works well.
I'd have to say that these are more neutral than just about anything out there. They have a natural tonal balance that doesn't allow any one thing to stick out. It keeps everything in harmony and in place.
Listening to an acoustic guitar using my latest home brew cables in comparison to the Silkworms, I got the feeling that my cables (Continuous caste Copper in a low capacitance geometry and temperature treated) gave a little more presence to the upper levels of the guitar. It had a little greater pop of the strings. But in comparison to the Silkworms it was at the expense of a little more body of the guitar. The Silkworms allowed a little more of a natural balance, and allowed the guitar to sound more like a real instrument.
While the Silkworms might not be cheap they are certainly very good and easily on par with the best of the best. System synergy is everything and they may not be the best for all applications, but as neutral as these are I can't see them being bad in any application. Unless someone is looking for a tuning device to correct for a system issue I can't imagine anyone not liking these.
If you have a really high end system and you aren't afraid to spend a few bucks to make the most of it, then you might want to give these a try. I don't endorse too many products very often (almost never). I know this sounds like one and for good reason.
Best of luck with these John.
