Phono stage help
« on: 14 Nov 2008, 10:22 pm »
My next purchase and I would appreciate some direction.  Currently I'm using a solid state Monolithic with an ARC line stage.  Respectable unit but I would like more liquidity in the higher frequencies.  The Monolithic is a little dry.  One device I'm thinkin over is the Sutherland thousand dollar model.  Haven't as much as read a single review but have an affection for an old battery powered stage of years past (many) which this has in common with that.  Foremost, I want more liquidity to the top end than what I am presently getting.  It would be very nice if I could get a little more warmth in the bass, too.  Thanks for your advice.

AliG-  Home boy.  I accept your invitation.  Is a weekend good for you?  How's the one after Thanksgiving?  Super thanx.  Jim

And thanks, Dougie.  That's the kind of info I am hopeful of getting.

Weekend is good.  :thumb: You can come in after attending the Houston Audiophile Society meeting in December...so you don't have to make an extra trip down to Houston.

JIMDGOULDING, I DO NOT KNOW WHEN YOU POSTED YOUR INQUIRY ABOUT A PHONO STAGE. I STUDIED A BUNCH OF HIGH-END UNITS SOME TIME AGO AND CHOSE THE TRICHORD RESEARCH DELPHINI MK2. I HAVE LOVED IT AND BELIEVE YOU WOULD FIND THE PURITY OF SOUND TRANSMISSION TO BE NATURAL TOP TO BOTTOM. I HAVE FRIENDS WITH GOOD AUDIO EARS WHO HAVE BEGGED ME TO SELL THEM THE UNIT. I WAS NOT USING IT FOR A BIT, BUT RECENTLY HOOKED IT UP TO AN ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPTOR HYDRAULIC REFERENCE TURNTABLE WITH SUPER TUBE AMP AND PRE-AMP. HOPE YOU HAVE HAD OR WILL HAVE A SUCCESSFUL PURCHASE.
