Well, the first thing you should be aware of is, even though the web page says the product ships from Chicago, after I paid, the invoice said expected delivery in 2 to 3 weeks.  I don't know if they were just out of stock, or if they drop ship from their factory in the far east.  Or... maybe the ownere of the company tucked it in his backpack and will be walking here to deliver it in person.

It's going to take a bad transport to ruin the sound of the Isabellina though -- really the first DAC that made it easy to part with vinyl.

UPS tracking says tomorrow.  Hope I'm well enough to deal with it then -- got the first bad sinus/lung thing of the year and lyin' pretty low right now.

But if there's anything that can get me out of a sick bed, it's a new piece of audio gear -- and one just arrived today too .

I just got a new (E-bay) DAC and am considering transports...any info would be great.

I unpacked the box last night and the unit seems solid, the remote is solid, and the drawer slides easily.  However, I apparently didn't get the little puck to hold the CD to the spindle, so at this time I can't tell you anything more.  Right now I have no idea how long it will take to get a replacement puck, and I also called a dealer friend to see if she had any spare pucks, but no, so I'm up the proverbial creek without the proverbial paddle.  I ssure as hell hope it doesn't take another month to get the replacement.

Everything else about the unit seems good and solid, my one minor complaint is that occasionally the power switch sticks when trying to turn the unit off, but a little silicone grease should take care of that.

Having a blast listening to the new amp though .

We usually have items in stock.  In new items like this, it is very difficult to judge their popularity.  We ran out real early.  But, we always ship from Chicago, we never drop ship from the east.  We explain this on our site.

The amp is a Decware Torii II, the speakers are custom designed and built using te fostex F120A drivers, and the transport I'm currently using is an Oppo 980 -- so not a CEC belt drive or something like that.

Of course the main transport will be the laptop running foobar into the USB port on the DAC.

Pacific Valve has been really helpful with this, so in the mean time I'm sending the dac off for upgrades.

Not a bad deal though for the price considering they give you warranty.  The kit would have no warranty and also would be subject to fat fingering something.

I for one will be curious about laptop+foobar vs Vanguard.   I've emailed Pacific Valve about shipping price of a Vanguard to Europe and what, if any, other transports they have compared the Vanguard to.

Has anybody compared the Vanguard to the hifidiy.net kit?

People were saying it has a different clock, and power supply, but are they really better? or just different.
