Monitor opinion

Hello audio gurus,

Looking into some monitor speakers, which I have recently checked out  (Silverline Minuet @$600) (Madisound kits) and (BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers modified by Ed Frias for $250+shipping) Even though the BIC speakers are cheaper and they have some excellent reviews by numerous forums and amazon I'm still not very satisified, dont know but what concerns me is the price without the modification which is somewhere between $100 & 120 give or take.  Also, I personally dont know what type of "quality components" are used.  Now, the Silverline Minuet, now those got me a bit intrigued and some speaker kits from Madisound as well.  Well, let's just say that I'm undecided and I am wondering if any of you "Audiophile" could steer me in the right direction???  Please with sugar on top, lol! :green:  I may using a Primaluna Prologue 2 or a Cayin...  This system is mainly going to be used for my exercise room and I will be mainly using "Ipod" YES Ipod, even though using an ipod would be a crime to some  :nono:

Thanks to all in advance...  Ooops, lastly my price range is between $100 to $800 give or take

Hi chgolatin2,
Danny (GR Research) has 3 new monitors that are getting very good reviews and fall within your price range.  I haven't heard these but am a very happy customer of one of his other kits.  Here is the announcement thread for one of them:

Happy hunting!

What exactly do you mean by "monitor"? To me, I usually think about a small stand-mounted speaker with that term, but just want to be on the same page...

Those would be high on my list for a no-holds-barred 2-way small design...Zaph also has a floorstanding version. I'm a big fan of the Scanspeak Revs. I'm sure the Madisound kits are well done, too.

An Ipod running RockBox and lossless files can sound killer :)

I recently auditioned GR's Neo2's and found them to be a very nice 2 way stand mount.
You may want to add a sub for that rockin' work out  :weights:
I'd call Danny and sign up for an audition in your own home (for the price of shipping).

Although I haven't heard them, I've seen these praised often on other forums:

The $333 price for the rosenut pair is supposedly correct.

Wharfedale diamond 9.1 have some great reviews and are under $300 as well.  Their 75th anniversary looks very good...  Good reviews on them as well but again, still researching..

Here's another vote for GR's speakers, I've heard them and was shocked at the price/performance ratio.

Hi,

Your system seems pretty good.  I haven't heard a pair of vs2's and don't know how good they are.  Although they seem to get pretty good reviews.

Why not save your money and buy a pair of robert acoustic speakers that retail for more but have top quality components?  Another suggestion is salk sound speakers.  I recently purchased a pair of ht2's and they are very good value.

Just a suggestion.

The GR's would be a nice choice.

If you're considering bumping the budget a bit, Jim Rebman here on AC has a pair of ACI Sapphire XL's for sale that would be killer.

I haven't heard Danny's new monitors, but they're likely price/performance monsters if they're akin to his previous designs.

I have heard the ACI Sapphire XLs, and if Jim will sell his pair for something within your stated budget, I strongly recommend you consider pulling the trigger.  The XLs are outstanding speakers IMO, easily worth their full retail.  Getting a pair for the $$$ you're considering is well within no-brainer territory.
