Quote from: Bob in St. Louis on 29 Sep 2008, 10:45 pmSo Jerry, since you asked us......What's yours?BobMy one song I will always play is Keith Don't Go by Nils Lofgren on the Acoustic Live album. This is such a great song. Just one guy on stage, puttin' it on for the crowd. Everyone I have ever played this song for ends up just smiling and nodding their head knowingly. I think it's a great tune to show what a nice system can play music like.Have fun,Jerry

That *One* Song
It definitely depends on who the person is. But as a general rule, when demoing my system for someone who has not heard a good system before, I try to play something that they have heard a million times before. If I play them something they know, they seem to appreciate the quality a lot more...
Three of the picks so far are on the 2006 NYAR Cd....here's the full list... New York Audio Rave - “Reference Tracks - 2006”1 - Copland - "Fanfare For The Common Man" (Telarc)2 - Wynton Marsalis Quartet - "Feeling Of Jazz"3 - The Bad Plus - "Keep The Bugs Off Your Glass, And The Bears Off Your Ass"4 - Bozzio, Levin, Stevens - "Duende"5 - Ben Harper - "Gold To Me"6 - Morphine - "Buena"7 - Bernadette Peters - "Blackbird"8 - Kalman Olah Trio - "Inspiration Of Variation XXI"9 - Mino Cinelu - "Oncoming Horizons" (bass test)10 - Nils Lofgren - "Keith Don’t Go"11 - Groove Troopers - "Bearing Bears and Boring Boars"12 - Stevie Ray Vaughan - "Tin Pan Alley" (w/ Johnny Copeland)13 - The Only Reference Track You’ll Ever Need… (woof, woof)
Muddy Waters - Folk Singer SACD - My Home is in the Delta. Even on a entry level system it sounds likes the whole band is right in front of you. For me it defines the term "soundstage".
If you were going to show someone how nice your system sounds, but could play only one song, what song would you play? Why that song?Have fun,Jerry
It would depend on the person, obviously: Eva Cassidy's "Field of Gold" (I know, I know, but you'd be surprised how many people haven't heard it); "Willin" from Little Feat's Live At The Ram's Head; and "Talk To Me Of Mendocino" from The McGarrigle Hour are what I've been showing off lately. All great songs, with great sound. The first and third capture live events really well, and the second has great harmonies (Kate M. and her children Rufus and Martha Wainwright).
