Steve Deckert has been teasing us with these for a while.   They came in at $1700/pr, nicely finished.    Uses the Fostex FE-206E 8" full range driver in quite an interesting cabinet design.

Cool stuff for us low power SET afficianados.

At that price, it looks like I'll have to go DIY once the kits are released, though.

hey brad!

if you're going to post commercial ads maybe you should go down to the market square forum....

first you place the "decware tubed dvd player" in the multichannel forum.... no one responds...

and now this post about a "decware tower speaker"

as you can see from the number of responses...no one cares about your advertising...esp. since you just list the item with a link and have no personnal experience with either product....

both of these products may be ok.. or even great... but don't come here as a walking billboard....

just ask steve at decware to maybe use his advertising dollars in a different direction than using free internet audio boards for the pushing of his products...

Hey Russ,

I have no commercial connection to Decware.
In this case, I thought the speaker cabinet design was really interesting and might generate some discussion.

Thanks for your lecture though.

it is interesting that someone who "has no commercial connection to decware" starts two separate threads about new decware products....

and still no one is interested in responding about the product itself....

Wow, you caught me.
It's all a part of the big Decware conspiracy.

Steve should be shipping my free amp this week as compensation.

I guess I'll beg your forgiveness for expressing enthusiasm in a product I'm interested in.

Hey Russ,
I don't think this guy is a schill as you imply.  He just posted about some new speakers that a company introduced.  I thought it was a decent post.  Also, I don't think it should have gone in the commercial section because he isn't trying to sell them.  He said he might think about a kit because the price is a bit steep for his budget (okay, I was reading between the lines for this last part).

Come on, lighten up, it's only audio.  Hopefully, Steve from Decware can come on and tell us more about these speakers.  I didn't see a whole lot on the site regarding the design of these cabinets.  One of these days, when I am downstate, I'll have to find Decware and try to hear them.  I also checked Brad's old post and didn't see anything wrong with the DVD announcement.  He's excited about a new product.  Haven't we all been guilty of as much?  As far as I know, he makes no money from Decware and doesn't own any of their products (I didn't look closely, but I dont think he owns anything from them).

Decware is one of those strange but cool companies that is run by a kind've eccentric guy who designs and builds his own products..in the US!  Unlike some, he doesn't lease or liscense the design from another company and try to pass himself off as an "expert".  He doesn't have his stuff built in third world countries or silk screen his name on other people's OEM designs.   Decware stuff seems to be priced within the reach of regular people.  Also, Steve from Decware doesn't lavish his stuff with outlandish BS (the "Audio is Art" drivel) or make unscientific claims.  Granted, I didn't read through his entire site, but the ten minutes I spent there was informative and amusing.

Anyway, that's just my ten cents.  There are some who disagree with the stuff I believe and they are entitled to their opinion.  Heck, you may be one of them...that's okay.  Either way, I'll hear these speakers one of these days.  If they are good sounding, I'll post something on this site.   If they sound bad, I'll post something on this site AND on Decware's own message board...just to shake things up a bit.   I'm betting they sound pretty good.

No worries!  I hope you both stick around and continue to contribute to this site.  It's good to see people speaking their feelings and I can't say that I haven't been in the middle of much larger spats on this and other boards.  In the end, we do this for fun.  I used to have to remind myself of that but lately I've had much less time to peruse the boards and participate because of my new job.  Don't have to remind myself about having fun because some of the stuff I read on this site is as close to fun as it gets at times.

I still lurk and post as often as possible but this is the busy time of year for me.  Will post more when things slow down a bit over the holidays.  Anyway, don't get soft on us!  Above all, keep it real (what does that mean anyway???).

Peace,

J

dang Russ,
why you gotta get all nazi on this guy? He is clearly just trying to inform some people on a long awaited speaker. If you'd been around as long as he has you'd see he has no tie with decware.

Give Russ a break, the guy admitted he may have jumped the gun.  His intentions were good.  We need someone with Russ's spirit!  Keeps people honest.

I hear ya Jackman,
My last post surfaced untimely...I started it and was interupted so it finished after like 3 other posts came through. All is good. You're right, accountability is a good thing.

I heard the prototype of this speaker 6 weeks ago.  The driver hadn't been modified and it wasn't broken in, but it sounded flatter and with more bass than a couple of commerically available bass reflex designs that use the same driver.  The cabinet is extremely complex (two passive radiators, two ports, a diffusion plate, 4 chambers, and transmission line loading).  All this to make a single driver (that has a whizzer cone) design work.   :o

Decware specializes in very simple EL84 & EL83 versions of SETs.  He has a small shop with 3 or 4 employees that hand build the amps.  His cabinet maker lives/works in Arizona.  The amps offer are 2 - 12 wpc, with more bass and less syrup than typical SETs (most sold are the 2 wpc variety).  Prices range from $500 to 2,500 assembled with most available in kit form.  He has now branched out into modding a DVD player.  He sells two other speakers as well as several different plans for very interesting subs.  The Imperial sub that can be seen behind his new speaker has (2) 15 inch drivers and is just the left channel located in the same garage as his band jams in every weekend (that thing is overkill!).

Steve Deckert has no advertising budget, but does have a website with an active forum that Brad and I frequent.  Brad is a Decware customer, I am not.  IMO the Decware forum has a "friendliness factor" on par with audiocircle and is suprisingly active considering how constraining 2 wpc can be.  Chauk that up to quality, value, and service that a devoted hometown company can provide.

I have no connection with the company beyond fellowship with the forum gang there.  Hope this clears things up a bit and that it is viewed as appropriately posted.

hi,

There are many posters who provide different products for AC members to discuss and consider.

On occasions i have been able to find an interesting product when this occurs.

I agree with rocket, one of the main reasons to read threads on the many different audio sites is to get informed of new and exciting products. The web's a big area to cover, nothing wrong with a little "head's up" !  :D

I must admit my scepticality of a single driver speaker. I understand they can have amazing sound though. Can anyone fill me in on the premise of how a transmission line set up works? could you apply it to a subwoofer?
thanks all, beat
