For me it would be De Niro. Heat is one of my favorites and I like both of them in that.
Frank Caliendo doing De Niro
HEAT was on last night and I stayed up until 3 AM watching it for like the 10th time. That scene in the restaurant is classic, as is the scene when De Niro's crew tricks Pacino and his detectives into the open to be photographed. There is also a strong supporting cast, including Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Ashley Judd, Hank Azaria and Jon Voight is great in his role as the fence/adviser to De Niro. The final big shoot out scene through the streets of Los Angeles always reminds me of the real life bank robbery where 2 guys wearing bullet proof vests and carrying automatic weapons took on dozens of police in L.A. I always wondered if they were copying that scene, since they seem eerily similar.
I watched "88 Minutes" this weekend. It's apparent to me that for my tastes the director (Jon Avnet) doesn't do these suspense thriller type movies too well. Both 88 Minutes and Righteous Kill were both average films and really tedious to watch. I was never drawn into the movie, I was hopeful for the first 15 minutes of "88" but is quickly fizzled. I can't say I'm eager to watch anything else from this combination. The director really spoon feeds you dribble and expects you to act suprised or enlightened at the reveal, when you saw him fixing the trick onstage, backstage and in his garage all along.
