also the engineer who worked on it said that : "Believe me I'm not proud to be associated with this one..."

album is compressed to DEATH its totally unlistenable!

Here is an analasis i did in sound forge new album vs BLACK

WerTicus - I would love to see that comparison between the GH3 version and the regular album version. I'm telling you guys, it sounds night and day different. The regular version is brutal on the ears after 4-5 songs, GH3 is like a normal album, but the songs are a little different.

Wait a minute, you're saying I have to play a VIDEO GAME to hear superior audio!?  Sheesh!  That article gives me hope, it's good to know that we snooty hi-fi snobs are not just a lone voice in the wilderness complaining about an issue that no one else understands or is even aware of.

I wish they would, but people complained a lot about St. Anger's quality as well, and they didn't change it.

It's the whole album, cut from a different set of tapes apparently, and it includes two versions of "Suicide".

the GH version is mastered better but several of the songs have extended solo's to suit the game.

Oh cripes, St. Anger would need more than remastering, it would need emergency snare replacement!

The apostrophe is never used to make a word plural.

Yes, but then it won't be the loudest album in your collection anymore, and you won't like it! :P

I was going to pick up the LP after I bought the CD, but I read its the same as the CD. Its crazy that I have to download music to get the best sound.

If you have downloaded a copy of the GH3 version, you can join "Send It Back Day". Keep the jacket/jewel case for the GH3 rip, clip the original Cd with scissors and send it back to Metallica HQ

Perhaps if a lot of people do this, we can really send a message not only to Metallica, but the recording industry in general.

Yesterday there was a feature on BBC4's consumer affairs programme You and Yours about Death Magnetic and the Loudness Wars - it's not about some obscure audiophiles complaining anymore; you can access it here:

Part I
Part II

Death magnetic is now the Poster Boy for the fight against the Loudness War. You can sign the remix petition - even if they probably won't, 16,000 signatures are saying to the next record producer do not redline the mix and stop this madness

I can't believe the video game version sounds better.  Hopefully Metallica will remaster the CD, but there is probably a better chance of the DJIA hitting 15000 by year's end.
