small sub

Hi yall Im in need of a decent small sub for augmentation in a small TV room.  I was planning on an x-sub as I have seen them for so long and had a killer price- low and behold AV123 doesnt make them anymore and was having quality issues with many- so used is a crudshoot. Does anyone else know of a good one- checked out parts express and wasnt too intrigued. The av123 price ~$200 was nicce for what youu were getting -Thanks

My TV room is approx. 13'x16' with 8.5' ceilings. I was looking for a sub. to use for movie watching.
I too was interested in the x-sub but bought a HSU STF-1 instead. It has a small footprint: 19"h x 15"d
x 11"w so it fits nicely behind my TV. I run a 2.1 system and it integrates beautifully with my speakers.

It really packs a punch for such a small sub. It's worth checking out, in my opinion.

A wholehearted recommendation on the Gallo TR series of subs.....wow, I bought the lowliest TR-1 model (stole it more like it :)) on ebay last year for like $189.00 (used - new I think they are $400) and finally hooked it up last week. I've seen them new for $300 or so in spots.

It's soooo good...the higher line TR-2 is mostly the same except for the advance to a 250watt internal amp (versus 100 watt).  Same substantial 10" woofer, same (sealed) small, cylindrical steel enclosure and a full range of options on the back to choose from.

For my (audio only) needs the TR-1 is plenty fine...if yo need a bit more cranking up with video, the TR-2 might be better suited.  It's all about room size, too.

I'm going to invest in some brass feet and a thick plank of maple underneath...all that energy needs to be outlet-ed somewhere....right now it's overpowering the room (I have it tucked away in a corner, bass reinforced unfortunately, but it is completely unseen and I like it that way).  Brass feet and a thick maple block have worked wonders with my turntable, I hope it do much the same in re-directing excess energy with the subwoofer.

If you want to seriously pressurize the room look at a used HGS-12 or DD-12. No boxy sound, melds with music and movies and its relatively small with a long throw woofer. Great for classical slam!  :D
