Hey Pat....

I've not heard this amp, but seems a good review by Michael Fremer......he bought the review sample. Maybe topround/Mike can run over to Mike Fremer's house and have a listen.....

While following the thread about the $139,290 amps, I just had to read the Stereophile review about the $350,000 Wavac SH-833 monoblock power amplifier.

The review compared the Wavac to the Musical Fidelity and states: "Dynamics? Yes. Perhaps the SH-833s didn't measure up to the sledge-hammer authority of the Musical Fidelity kW monoblocks..."

Not exactly the amp you bought but maybe you can relax a little. I think you bought a winner.

Great suggestion.  :thumb:

You've just purchased what is said to be a great amp, Pat.  I suspect you'll be pleased as punch with it, at least until the Spectrons arrive.

You have made a fine choice! Although I have not heard this particular amplifier, I am pretty familiar with MF gear. I have listened to their Synthesis, A1, A1 (FInal Edition), A2, A3.2, A1000, B series, F series, Nu-Vista, and can vouch that MF gear sounds very, very musical! Antony Michaelson is not only an accomplished musician, he also knows what sounds good. MF gear does run hot but as far as relaibility goes, my dad's Synthesis (circa 1980) is still up and running and sounding as sweet as it did in day one!

Enjoy the amplifier!

Best Regards
Dennis

I've only the owned the X series but have always liked them for headamps. A friend of mine is a hardcore MF fan currently with a kW setup and I'd doubt you could pry them from his cold, dead hands....but I bet I could. I love the aesthetics.

He previously owned a Tri-Vista setup and while no DBT was done, the rig sounded heavier and had more ass end. Is "ass end" and audiophile term?

I have the KW500, probably a similar 'house sound' to the KW750's - MF have a great reputation for amps and CD players, at the same time I subscribe to the view that amps need to be in charge of the speakers and not vice versa.  Putting all this together I think you're going to love them, just don't fry the SP's    :green:

:D  the kw750 is now in house powering through some rock and roll vinyl and it's not really core warm yet as i can't wait for that as i have been without tunes for too long, but i can truly say this amp kills the DNA500 it replaced.this thing has musical powers i have not heard till now.may have a keeper here.the amp is nearly 100 pounds with a 50 pound power supply, big gear for sure.back to the sweet tunes.... :thumb:

Pat,
Good Choice,
I have heard the KW's at Mikey's house with a couple of different speakers, they are big and powerful, and in his house very musical sounding. Of course the source he uses is extremely musical. They drove the Maxx 2's with ease and I heard a huge deep open soundstage.
Any interest in the KWP preamp that goes along with those amps?
A friend is selling his, would be a great match for those amps, you gotta see the remote
Let me know

Mike

Just had mine KW750 and KW Pre-Amp PSU modified by an ex-MF engineer. Now I have much more bottom end and clearer mid/high. Seems the 750 PSU only has x2 600 KVA coils, same as KW 500, mine now has x2 1000 KVA.

Toyboy - Have you 'upgraded' the umbilical cables from the PSU to the amp also?
Revelation Audio & an Asian ebay seller make these and both claim (as you would expect) that they make an improvement.  I've not tried this yet but have found power cables make a minor difference, so maybe changing out the stock umbilical's is worthwhile.

Thanks for the heads up Wolfy - I'd seen a few posts on RAL but not sure what the current (no pun intended - but good eh for a cable producer) status was.  It's a pity as the cable products were very good.  Website is still up and running.

More feedback:

Anyway - I'm still interested in any feedback on the benefit of swapping out the cables.
