My wife really wants an ultracompact camera that will fit easily in her purse for "on the fly" picture taking. Can anyone recommend a model that is high quality with a good interface? thanks!

I am assuming you are referring to a digital camera. The CANON Powershot camera's are very compact, easy to use, and have a better than average interface when downloading your images IMO. There are a couple of models ranging from 8.0-10.0 Megapixels. These are not terribly expensive and get the job done well.

You also should check out www.cnet.com as they review all current models.

We've mainly been a Canon home, but I haven't tried their newer ultra-compacts.  They get good reviews, I just don't have direct experience.
