Straley speaker cable owners, what did you replace them with and how much did it set you back?

Bigfish

I replaced mine with the Harmonic Technology Pro 9s.  Better, yes!  More expensive, yes!

Ken

Big Red Machine

Many between then and now.  Settled on the RSA Poiemas as my favorite so far.  The Reality's are still very nice products.  I prefer gold and silver though.

 Just goes to highlight the whole system synergy thing ... or different tastes ...

From oldest to most recent, each step being an improvement, I have used:
1) Transparent Audio MusicWave
2) Harmonic Technology Pro-9 bi-wires
3) Harmonic Technology Pro-11 x 2 runs (bi-wire)
4) Synergistic Research x 2 runs (Resolution Reference on top, Signature II on bottom) $$$$
5) a prototype single cable by Keith Eichmann (better than the marketed models)
6) Straley Reality Cable (current)

Absolutely.

As for me, I'm still using them.

I'm using my first pair of Reality speaker cables right now.

I'll be replacing them next week with something that the builder says will be better. Who's the builder?

Gregg Straley, of course.  :thumb:

I've built my new system so far based on other people's ears. Why stop now?  :green:

hello gene, are the new straleys made with the limited supply cable from another vendor?  if so i have heard the interconnects made with the new wire and they do sound better than the original.

Hi,

To be honest, I'm not sure what Gregg is sending me. I ordered the set of speaker cables a month ago and only just got my new power amp and speakers in the house at the same time.

Gregg said these better cables were also stiffer. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I first ordered a set of XLR IC's and because of what Gregg had ready on hand, they ended up being the limited availability wire he mentions on his site.

Gregg is very easy to deal with and I need that because I'm in way over my head with all this stuff.  :duh:

I have a more synergistic situation than most as all of my equipment is internally wired with Reality Cable including my loudspeakers. Obviously the interconnects and speaker cable work with the components in my system in a more than satisfactory manner and I haven't been looking for replacements. For the systems in which Reality Cables seems to work I haven't seen too many people looking for a change to something different.

Me too!

I have four pairs and have no urge to try anything else.

Marvin, is there an area you think could be improved on your Straley's?

Great thread...

I echo the comments regarding Gregg and his products, very easy to deal with and nice products.

I tried his speaker cables during a very transitional period and would need to go back to them again to get the sonic signature. The cables did not miss much, especially for the price.
I would like to here the Ridge Street products and SilverFi speaker cables and take another round with all three now that my system has been more stable.

I still use them, too.  As some of you know I am a 5.1 hirez music fanatic, and have built a hi-end SP Tech Revelation/Continuum-based system.  It is important to me that the tonality of the 5.1 hirez music (SACD/DVD-A, Blu-Ray audio discs) set-up be stable and consistent.  I use Gregg's cables for my SP Tech Continuum music surrounds, and they were only slightly bested (but not by much, hence the ability to work in the same system) by the much much more expensive actively shielded Synergistic Research Tesla Accelerator cables.  Without hearing those the Reality cables would have been the winner for the front three channels too.  As far as value, there is nothing I've ever bought that has more bang for the buck, nothing.

These are not from down south, but I'll have those in a few weeks if you can hold out.   :thumb:

The ones I have here now are only 5' but worth a listen if there's any way 5' works.

I'm out of town the rest of the week, but give me a call Sunday.  I get back in town around 2PM, if you want to run by and grab them Sunday evening that will work.   :thumb:
