Conquistador - Procol Harum, can't put my fingers on the album at the moment

Live- In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the De Camera Singers.
Conquistador is only 4:18. The last track, In Held 'Twas I, is 19:11. Dynamite recording on MFSL.

Frank Zappa and the Mothers- Just Another Band From LA,  Billy the Mountain 24:46

I am quite fond of long play rock songs too if they really rock.

Dream Theater & Tool are two of my favorites with numerous 8+ minute songs (off hand, didn't look up song lengths).

I was listening to Tool 10,000 Days last night. All the songs kinda fit the same mood or theme. So I guess it qualifies in that respect.

I just looked it up, two songs off that album, the title track and Rosetta Stoned each clock in over 11 minutes.  I haven't found a 15 minute song yet, at least if you don't count filler in the track.

I consider the ambient stuff in the middle of By-tor & Snow Dog by Rush as filler. That's why I don't consider it a masterpiece even though I love the song. In a masterpiece, every note belongs and it could not have been played better.
Dazed & Confused for example: some might consider that song horrible chicken scratch. But no other rock guitarist could have pulled off all the rock guitar techniques Jimmy employed with just the right note at the right time. :notworthy:

Thanks, that's what my foggy brain was thinking of  :thumb:  My copy is a standard red book though.

If you are ordering Renaissance, you should grab a copy of their live album, Live at Carnegie Hall. Woodsyi is right, Annie Haslam has a marvelous voice. That album also has Ashes are Burning and Mother Russia that are long ones.

Continuing the epic song themes;

I'm amazed nobody hasn't mentioned Frank Zappa's Apostrophe', side 1 with Yellow Snow. Granted its four or five songs but they all run together.
Same goes for side 2 of Abbey Road

Lucifers Friend - [Banquet] Spanish Galleon
Lucifers Friend - [Banquet] Sorrow
Todd Rundgren's Utopia - Utopia Theme
Todd Rundgren's Utopia - The Ikon (the Ikon is 30:25)
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down (all four sides are one continuous story)
Genesis - [Selling England by the Pound #05] The Battle of Epping Forest
Genesis - [Selling England by the Pound #07] The Cinema Show
Genesis - [Foxtrot Remaster #06] Supper's Ready: Lover's Leap/The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man/...
Genesis - [Nursery Cryme Remaster #01] The Musical Box
Kansas - [Masque #08] The Pinnacle
Little Feat - [Feats Don't Fail Me Now #08] Cold Cold Cold,Tripe Face Boogie
Loggins & Messina - [On Stage (Disc1) #09] Angry Eyes
Loggins & Messina - [On Stage (Disc2) #01] Vahevala
Neil Young - [Decade (disc 2) #15] Like A Hurricane
Rush - [2112] '2112' (Overture, The Temples Of Syrinx, Discovery, Presentation, Oracle - The Dream, Soliloquy, Grand Finale)
Rush - [Moving Pictures] Moving Pictures - Remastered - 05 - The Camera Eye
The Doors - [The Best Of The Doors (1 of 2) #11] When the Music's Over
The Doors - [The Best Of The Doors (Disc 2) #08] The End
Traffic - [When The Eagle Flies #02] Dream Gerrard
UFO - [Strangers In The Night #09] Rock Bottom
Wishbone Ash - [Argus -Remastered & Revisited #01] Time Was

Some of these albums are actually ROCK OPERAs made to be played from beginning to end. Scott mention Genesis, Selling England by the Pound. This is an extrodinary album, so is the double album by Genesis, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Then to consider rock operas, you must include:

The Who: Tommy
Kansas: Leftoverture
Klaatu: Calling Ocupants of Interplanetary Craft
Tears for Fears: Seeds of Love
Roxy Music: Avalon
almost any Moody Blues album because they are all connected together with no breaks.
All Pink FLoyd are connected.

That's my take anyway.

Illusions on a Double Dimple... Triumvirat's best ever.  An excellent album that I first purchased in 1976 in Macomb, Ill.  Still sounds great and has withstood the test of time.  And I thought I was the only person ever to own that...
