« on: 10 Aug 2008, 11:01 pm »
Here is my list of longplay rock music masterpieces that I've heard. I guess for me longplay is over 15 minutes or close to it.  I could add dozens more that are closer to 10 minutes. I like Longplay. aa

In-a-gadda-da-vida- Iron Butterfly
Tarkus- ELP, Show that Never Ends
Space Truckin'- DP, Made in Japan
Dazed & Confused- Led Zep, Song Remains the Same
Inside Lookin' Out- Grand Funk, Caught in the Act
2112, Working Man- Rush, All the World's Stage
Catch the Rainbow- Rainbow, On Stage
Light in the Black- Rainbow, Rising
I'm Going Home- Ten Years After, Woodstock
Black Magic Women- Santana, Sacred Fire
Xanadu- Rush, Exit Stage Left
Sign of the Cross- Iron Maiden, Rock in Rio

Almost a masterpiece but lacked a good ending.
Let There be Rock- AC/DC, Live in Donnington

I am quite fond of long play rock songs too if they really rock.

Dream Theater & Tool are two of my favorites with numerous 8+ minute songs (off hand, didn't look up song lengths).

12 minutes is okay, I slipped in one that was only 11 minutes.

Mistreated is good, I should have listed it too. But I think the version off of Burn has more feeling. The version off of Made in Europe, Blackmore butchered.

I was listening to Tool 10,000 Days last night. All the songs kinda fit the same mood or theme. So I guess it qualifies in that respect.

Moby Dick: 20 mins. - How the West Was Won

Conquistador - Procol Harum, can't put my fingers on the album at the moment

Playing Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving Day has been a tradition at one of the local radio stations here in Philly for over 30 years now!

I just looked it up, two songs off that album, the title track and Rosetta Stoned each clock in over 11 minutes.  I haven't found a 15 minute song yet, at least if you don't count filler in the track.

Dream Theater, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Glass Prison 13:52
The Great Debate 13:45
disk 2 is an 8 part orchestral like song, which if counted like one would be quite long.
