Man I wish I could have 3 sound rooms and all those speakers!!!

I would love to have the chance to listen to your gear! :thumb:

Hi Dan,

The great thing about the 3 sound rooms is the realization that each system offers a different perpective on the music.

Yes! I can see that James. You could have a room for rock music, a room for classical, a room for vocalists. Man what an audio gearhead wonderland you got there James; just killer. If you need some help listening to tunes, send me a PM...lol

Per the below, it looks like it is temporarily out of foreclosure and apparently it is only 109 rooms (not bedrooms) in total.  Knowing he has a smaller place makes me feel a little sorry for the poor guy

Hi splittailz.

Ya I know but the Acoustat was one of those speakers I could never afford as a budding audiophile and I think its about time I played with a pair.  Also I find if I have a specific speaker at home to live with for awhile I can be much more knowledgeable when providing advice to our customers when using Bryston products on specific speakers.

By the way can anyone give me a quick overview of the different models and which one was considered the best given a normal room size?

thanks,
james

I am not sure of all of the specifics, but the "Monitor" series, including the 3 and the 4, were powered by tube-type amplifiers in the base of each speaker.  I owned a set of Monitor 4's, the 4-panel version, and have never been able to recreate the incredible openess and soundstage that these speakers produced.  Near the end, before I sold them, I had one speaker on each side of my bed and dubbed the system, "The world's largest set of headphones".  I miss them very much.

Between 1977 and 1992 I owned several models of Acoustat's, starting with the Acoustat X, moving to the 3, then the 4 (both w/ modified Servo-Charge amps), then 2+2's modified to work with Servo-Charge amps.  The 2+2's were definitely the best fit in moderate sized (less than 3500 cu ft) rooms.  I briefly tried 3+3, but those would need a much larger room.

Three plus three's!  Heavens, I didn't know there was such a beast.  I owned Three's for a long time.  Loved em.  With mine I used some Kenwood L07 SS monoblocks and a Counterpoint SA5 tube pre with an analog front end.  T'was a nice system.  Not a trace of anything artificial.

Hi,

I have 3 different sound rooms (still married) and 5 different pairs of speakers which are always changing (because I'm addicted) but currently the speaker/amps are:

1. Quad 2905 Electrostatics with 4B SST SQ
2. Martin Logan CLX Electrostatics with 28B's SQ
3. Thiel 3.7's with 28B's SQ
4. IB2's with 14B SQ
5. JBL 1400 Arrays with 14B SQ

james

James,
This old Acoustat 3 thread got resurrected today and I noticed your post regarding the speaker/amp combinations you had back in 2009.  I am wondering if any of the speakers have survived.  What are you running today?

Had a pair back in the day, loved em!   If I would have had a 10B crossover and major
subwoofer, they would have been amazing!

There were 4+4's as well, although I don't know how many of them were sold.
