Got the CD today.  It's very impressive.  What software did you do the layout with?  Music is great too.

Also all fans of metal should be interested in the soon to be released Dave Grohl's Probot.

Thanks Duff, glad you liked it!  I used Photoshop and Quark for the inlay booklet.

Received mine as well and got to have a good listen to it this weekend, nice variety of stuff on there! The booklet and artwork are great, too. I love that blacker than black cover, the perfect backdrop for our buddy on the front.
My question is, I know Mr. Weightlifter was a bit thin down below compaired to his upper half, but please tell me you fudged with the picture of him next to the sub  :o

That's what I'm talking about mca!!!
I'm certain nathanm did NOT, repeat did NOT fudge with the picture.
I, too, was astounded at the *toothpickiness* of our steroid_enhanced pal at the original (now legendary) thread. I, of course, received a torrent of insults by Dr. C%#@ himself... :)

"Your honor, I plead with you, is that REALLY his real torso? Does it not look like he performed hideous surgery on himself to attach a hideously bulged upper body on a pair of toothpicks?"
:D

Yes, plenty of "fudging" going on there, but all in good fun.  I had to draw in fake feet for the cover as they were obscured by grass originally.  To me it invokes certain Macabre cover art, well namely 'Unabomber' I suppose.  Big C's pic; with those sunglasses and all, really has that serial killer look when you run the threshold filter on him. Heh!  But seriously, I feel really glad that he seems to be gone now.

I made HIM fold his hands  Any chance you can add the picture in question to your gallery? I'm sure others without the CD would appreciate the laugh

Nathan, you were right about having to acclimate yourself to this type of music. After a few listens, I'm starting to appreciate the lyrics and the intricate complexities of this form of music. Thanks for taking the time to share your musical preferences. It's all good. :D Regards, Robin

This discussion has led me to listen to some of my heavier stuff and I haven't played much lately.  One thing that surprised my a little was that I'd remembered VoiVod as being a bit heavier.  Of course when you see 'em live, the songs are a little harder & louder, but even so I hadn't noticed the punk-ish sound some of their stuff has.

I'm still planning a sampler of old school stuff for Nathan, but he's set the bar pretty high.  It'll take some planning for sure...

JUST of Nathan? How about the rest of the music-deprived AC members? So happens I got another $5 bill that the credit cards company's missed. :o Regards, Robin

  No, I guess for anyone interested.  My tastes do tend to be a bit more "melodic", or maybe "commercial" than Nathan's, and I'm a little older than him, so my favorites tend to be from '84 to '90 or so.

I will concede to being fascinated with making compilations.  I've been doing it for two and a half decades, starting with putting my favorite 45's onto cassette tape.  Buying my first stand-alone CD-R deck for my home stereo seriously upped the ante, and nowadays I crank CDs in their multitudes on the PC.

Anyone who attempts to put together discs full of favorites will realize how difficult it is to boil the essentials of an entire genre down to a single 80 minute CD-R.  Hell, I had trouble deciding what to put on my Iron Maiden CD-R (a true classic, if I do say!).  What you omit can say more than what you include.  I take my hat off to Nathan on cranking out a really cool disc, and I'm sure he could've easily made a five disc set and still lamented cutting certain things out.

My brother made a really cool set of discs he titled "The Metal 80's".  He created one disc for each year of the Metal 80's, and made a jewel case insert with this really cool metallic silver paper (that I've been totally unable to find for 3 years now! :banghead: ).

It'll take me awhile as I ponder what I'll include, but it looks like I've got time on my hands right now.

BTW, I'd be interested in trading samplers of different types with any AC'ers that want to expand their musical horizons, so to speak.  Look what you've started, NathanM!

I too am trying to think up a decent compilations!  Unfortunately my taste is less "melodic" and definitely less "commercial" than Nathan's complation.  I'm afraid people would be demanding their $5 back.

Hey, Duff, more's the better.  To me, the idea is to hear stuff you'd normally never hear.  In that case, I'd be really interested in what you'd put on a disc.

All right fellas what's the deal?  Where are all the spinoff compilations we were tempted with in this thread?  Where is the 'Rob Babcock Presents...Pile Driver's Masterworks' disc?  Where's Duff's 'Sludgecore from Hell' compilation?  Where's Andrikos' "All My Discs Are In Storage' collection?  Where's the '31 Flavors Of Saliva and Brushed Snare' CD?  Come on guys, what happened to the 'ol sharing spirit?

Only Carlman was brave enough to offer up his Pat Boone metal\rock covers and "Squeeze This!"  accordian CDs.  (BTW thanks for those - the accordian one is definitely my new reference demo disc.  What Jurassic Park did for subwoofers this disc does for everything else.  Truly world class sonics there! I recommend getting this instead of that annoying Chesky disc. :P )  Pat Boone is kind of like a walking definition of the word "bland" but the "Holy Diver" cover wasn't half bad.  I thought it could've been a bit funnier if they had stuck a little closer to the original arrangements, but all in all a decent novelty disc.

So anyway, that leaves the rest of ya'll with yer vaporware comps. *Tsk tsk tsk*  Already I've had thoughts about a sequel of my own, but here I thought there'd be more coming from you guys in the meantime.  Did you guys get sued by the RIAA or something?  Come on now, let's get those CD burners heated up! :D

Well Pat Boone ain't the only on 'in a metal mood!' (see enclosed Avatar- currently The Metallian).  I've actually been tracking some stuff to the harddrive the last couple days, trying to figure out what to include.  It's been pretty tough- the stuff I listen to can be divided into distinct substyles depending on year, etc.  For instance, '87-'89 was the height of the hair metal explosion, but Metallica, Slayer,Maiden, Priest, Armored Saint, Metal Church, Megadeth, etc. were also riding high.  So how to give a good snapshot of what I listen to?

I'm seriously considering making a mini-series or 'boxed set' of several discs.  It'd be a lot easier than doing just one.

BTW, I'm also a bit apprehensive as to how well recieved my stuff will be, as it's a lot different than the stuff you listen too.  I can see we both like some of the same bands, but I can see you lumping bands like Dream Theater in with Madonna!

Nathan:

Picked up the F'ing Champs V on VINYL in Austin this weekend.
Pretty cool stuff.

Only had about 20 minutes at the vinyl shop - busy drinking and eating.....
