OMG! Nathan's Audiocircle Metal Sampler CD!!!!

Don't make one for me, I have the complete DCD catalog already! :)
That reminds me of an interview I once read with Lisa Gerrard.  I apologize if I screw up the details, I have no idea where it was from.  Anyway, she was talking about how a family member had died (her brother perhaps) and how at his funeral they played some of his favorite music, which happened to be heavy metal.  She said it made everyone feel better because it reminded them of him.  It was such a beautiful and touching sentiment I thought and it confirmed in my mind what an incredible artist she is and how some people truly understand the power of music, even if it may not be to their taste.  You can tell from hearing her sing that Dead Can Dance is tapped into some kind of primal energy that few understand.  I realize this sounds melodramatic, but it's true.  One of the few bands I know of whom I feel have not produced a single bad album.  Rare.

Oh kick ass I found something! Google is just amazing:

Quote from: Lisa Gerrard
Some people criticize us for being too much conceptive. In our last record, Spiritchaser, we talk about 'the magic force of music', and that force not only references the music that we practice. I tell you a story that touches me very closely. Months ago my brother Mark, a heavy metal ultrafanatic, has deceased. When we were young, he used to come back to home at dawn, drunk. He was arriving with a pizza in one hand, a beer in the other, and the cigarette hanging from the mouth. And that way, he stayed listening heavy, playing solos with an invisible guitar. We velated him in a christian church, with sacred music. I swear to you that this music, which I love, left me frozen, it wasn't doing nothing to me. Until one of his best friends arrived and put heavy metal, a music where I only stand Motorhead. And just when that started to sound in the church, I got in contact with the essence of the personality of Mark. That is the power of the music, to reflect us like mirrors.

Oh man,
major goosebumps!

DCD is beyond music, they are like you said connected to a forgotten source of energy and power...

My favorite 13 musical minutes of all times come from "SpiritChaser" and they are track 3 and 4. "Indus" and "The song of the dispossessed".
Imagine sitting in your listening position with only candle emitting their faint glow and Lisa's divine pipes asceding to the skies as offering to the Gods... Ahhh.. Nirvana... :)

Yep, you're right not one single bad or even mediocre album. I have them all here at work... :)

I hope this begins a wonderful tradition of Sampler CD's by Audiocirclians.
And it doesn't even have to be metal.  :)
I fully agreed with your statement ! Great way to find new music !  :D

I agree.  Taking inspiration from Nathanm, we could all put together some discs of our favorites.  It'd be a great way to learn about new music as well as about the listening habits of your fellow AC'er.

CD's would be good, but high bit rate MP3's burned to disc would be great also.  VBR gives very good sound, at the expense of compatibility with some players.  My Denon CD player & Denon and Pioneer DVD decks will play VBR, but not all players will.

Nathan has set the bar pretty, high though, so better bring you A-Game! :D

I don't think my A game would be any close to Nathan's...
It'd have to be an A+++++++++++ game!

Alrighty,
I listened to the album several times and I gotta say that my favorite Band/track that I've never heard before is Kataklysm... Very BoltThrower-y- only a tad -too- poppy :) Just kidding. I'll definitely be buying their CD's. Any suggestions for their best disc(s)?
Second favorite is Cathedral.. wonderful Doomy stuff.

Oh yeah, VoiVod as it turns out, has a new album out and I had on idea :(
I'll be buying it on my way home tonight.

And yes, Jason Newsted is a member of VoiVod.
Bummer, he destroyed my favorite all-time band and he's on his way for another... :(
Where are you, oh, Cliff?  :|

Sean Duffy
Bradley Baker
Robin Bombard
Michael Cole
Scott Grupke
Pete GTP (sorry, don't know your real name)
Ernest Obusek

The 2nd batch is almost ready to go.  Is this list covering everyone who ordered?  Let me know if I missed ya.  Thanks.

Andrikos - Kataklysm you have to be careful of, as they radically changed their sound at one point with some kind of rap infleunce.  (don't even want to think about it, personally)  If the singer on the album is Sylvain Houde you are in the clear, IMHO.  But to be honest I only have the one album of theirs and a smattering of MP3s from other LPs, so I am no expert on Kataklysm by any stretch of the imagination.  This might help: http://www.kataklysm.net/main.htm

Nathan,
thanks for the Kataklysm warning... RAP?!?!?!?! Yikes!
I'll be careful.
On the same note, because of you, now I'm scrounging Ebay for old thrash/death/whatever metal CD's... Thanks a lot! Like I needed more things to spend money on...
On the good side though, I bought the last VoiVod CD, new for $2.75 shipped!!! Who says Ebay doesn't rock? :)

Just got the CD today.  Very nice art and beaufully constructed booklet (as was mentioned earlier).

I think it's a fun CD to listen to.  The music isn't as heavy as I thought it was going to be though.  Maybe I'm not playing it loud enough ; )

I haven't heard a song that I don't like.  This stuff is definitely a cut above the junk they play on the radio.

Great job Nate, for 5 bucks, everyone should own this sampler!

My copy came in yesterday.
Got a chance to listen today.

Very tasty Nathan.
The sequence of songs is well done - they feed from one to the next quite well.

Bravo :D

Any of you guys heard of Dark Shift? It's made up of some talented young college-age guys just getting started. They are very dedicated to preserving metal, and the founder, Joel Wanasek started a website devoted to the cause: http://warriorsunited.iwarp.com/joel.html,
but beware of lots of pop-up ads.

btw, Joel is my friend's son. I know very little about the genre, but maybe you could let me know what you think of Dark Shift and it's mission.

Why aren't they called Rustoleum then?

Frankly, I think the guy sounds like a dick.  I'm not sure wether to laugh or not.  It takes "balls" to annoy people with loud music from your car and walk around telling people to "fuck off"?  No, it just takes being a rude asshole.  I don't go out of my way to beat people over the head with the music I like fer cripes sakes.

Yeah, metal is great and all and Joel is probably not as much of a doofus as this paragraph would lead one to believe, but personally I thought it was obnoxious drivel.  But hey, it's just one paragraph, so no big deal. :)

Its about getting on stage in front of a bunch of Dave Mathews Band loving people and kicking there asses with a sonic assult, and then telling them to fuck off.

Uh, who is their manager and why the hell is he booking them to play gigs for Dave Matthews fans!?  (Looks like somebody told their English teacher to "fuck off" at some point too.) :P

Is the link supposed to work?
I became a "million dollar winner" when I clicked on it...

I've been listening to music heavier than dinosaur's poop since I was 14 and I avoided the "heavy metal" crowd for just the above reasons..

c'mon guys, don't sugar coat things. I'd like to know what you really think.

Nathan, it's good to know you don't approve of telling everyone to fuck off. btw, have I told you lately I like your avatar?

There's a difference between having an indomitable "fuck you" attitude and waving the flag for metal and being an obnoxious punter.  Blasting music with all your car windows rolled down is just stupid, I don't care what it is.  Although yeah, I'd rather hear Rhapsody from someone's car than booming\buzzing-door-panel gansta rap it doesn't change the fact that it's just noise pollution.  He does not come across like a very good metal ambassador, that's all.

Anyway who cares about that, since Jerry saw fit to turn this thread into shilling some band :P, where's the Dark Shift MP3s?  What do they sound like?  :?:  I want to be sparred! :rotflmao:

If you want a copy, I think I can get hold of one.
I listened to it, and personally Nathan, the stuff you let me listen to was in a different league. Scary, but still good.
