paypal question
« on: 30 Jun 2008, 02:38 pm »
if you make a payment with paypal and the amount is more than what's in your paypal account, will paypal....
1) take what's in your account and get the rest from your checking account? or..
2) take the full amount from your checking account and leave the money in your paypal account alone?

I've done this a few times, and for my account, it takes uses what's in the account, then takes the remainder from the additional funding source.

There's probably some sort of setting in the Account section that lets you decide which way to do it...

Same here.  If you have a balance it starts there and then goes to your next source which can be changed during any transaction.  In Texas things are different.

It's kind of strange...in the past it has been just as Phil and Pete described on my account...maybe something changed and I need to select a new preference...or things really are different in Texas! 8)

Was there a "handling fee" or some form of penalty?
I realise of course in Texas they'd just come and kick your ass, but I don't live there so I'm safe.  :P

Lately PayPal has been ignoring my account balance when its less than the purchase amount, and accessing my bank's checking account for the full amount. Before they used to take any balance I had and debit my checking account for the difference.

Also they are now using an echeck system which takes 4-5 days, vs before when the money was debited instantly and my purchase transaction was completed in five minutes. The echeck system is a pain in the butt, I noticed that the money leaves my checking account in a couple days and takes another day or two before PayPal completes the transaction. So I guess they are using that "gray" period to invest my money and make off like Kings...the bastards.

Hey!

Really? I just bought something today and paid via PayPal. I had some $ in PayPal account and the total price was more than that.

PayPal always use whatever on it account first than give me a choice of paying the rest from my bank's checking account or from credit card.

Hmmm... wouldn't it be all the same way with everyone?

Take care,

Hey Buddy,

I think you're slightly off.  With me, the credit card acts like a backup.  If Paypal needs to make up any difference, they'd reach into whatever is the first source of funding first, usually your bank account.

Same exact thing with me too! They used to use the balance and then take the remainder from my alternate funding source but not anymore.  :dunno:

Have you ever tried contacting PayPal? I have and was extremely frustrated with their level of service. Whenever you reply, a new officer replies (often ignoring your points of concern) and when you reply to the second officer, a third officer sends another frustrating reply .... and it goes ad nauseaum!! If only they can consistently have one officer to deal with, the problem is likely to be resolved faster and with less aggravation!! Up till now I still have not received a satisfactory response to my plea for help. To add insult to injury, they send an email to assure that customer service is very important and blah, blah, blah .... sounds like the Call Centre type of response you get with some electronic equipment!!

Whenever I have a balance, I just have them pay my checking.  It takes 5 days to deposit fund in my checking account.  Of course it only takes a second to deduct money. :duh:  Paypal just wants to maximize the time they have money in their account.   :|

I hear you.  What I mean is I don't have any money on my Paypal account to use because I would already have requested it to be transferred to my checking account the day I receive any fund.

Hey!

Yes, credit card is a back up in case you don't have enough money in your bank.

Yes, when I pay for something that is more than what I have in my PayPal account. It will automatically show how much it will take from my bank's to make up the difference.

But! They always give me "More fund options" for me to click on. So, I could choose to use my credit card anytime instead of going to my bank's. :D

I always have this option even though I have enough money in my bank's checking account for transfer.

I don't know I think you all have this too. :D

Maybe you are getting 'special' treatment Buddy.  aa

Maybe I do, Maybe I do.... is that a good thing or bad thing to make it easier to spend using your credit card?   :duh:

paypal goes into whatever balance i have, then tries to go to my checking acct for the rest.  so, i always clear the paypal balance into my savings account prior to paying by paypal.  i always pay w/paypal using a credit card - offers protection from sellers who have "screwed  up"...   8)

Hey!

This might need it own thread but this is something that I might have to deal with.

But the question is... how will go about doing this? Do you contact the CC company to do this or PayPal?

I recently bought something from a dealer and paid via PayPal. Of course he tooted his horn about his service and etc. So, I got the thing from him That was 2 months ago. The thing start to have some problem a few weeks ago. So, I send him an email about 3 weeks ago but never got anything back. So, I send him again today and I will see if he will respond to this problem.

Now since it had been 2 months now. Can I have the CC or PayPal company do anything about this?

Take care,

you can try to do both.  but my experience has been better w/credit card companies.  better hurry, tho there's a time limit.  (likely w/both, as well...)
