Ok--Revolution is a bad name.  It's been done.  If not over-done.  I get it.  I cede the point.  At least I thought of it *second*  :)

Hey--how about this?

The Van Alstine Live Series?

Quick thought being that you still get the lower-cost, reliability and hassle-free ownership experience of solid state, without the cold and hyper-detailed sound normally associated with solid state.  A solid state amp that sounds live; or--a solid state amp that sounds alive.

Ok--feel free to rip me a new one yet again.  I enjoy the ribbing, especially when deserved.  (The Tannoy Revolution series is what made me LOL!)

No offense and not arguing but revolution is also meaning something else besides a beatles song, or "Revolutionary" audio product,  and that is a "Rotation" or as in "ONe Revolution around the sun", so yes it applies to ball bearings and turntables as well, because it is a motion...  I mean I am not really certain of the argument but I think most can see that it is a very Common term in audio I am sorry to say.

Now the folks here seems to think being common is a bad thing, or a bad name.

So what's wrong with being common?

Humm, "Aperio", Latin for "clear".  Sounds interesting.  "Transcendence" was Latin based too I think (I am definitely not a language scholar).  Any more ideas along this line?

Thanks so much for the continuing interest.

Frank Van Alstine

Aperio means to make clear as in reveal or uncover, either literally or figuratively; "claritas" means brightness unless I'm mistaken. Claro (in Latin) means to make bright or clear to the mind, as in the proverbial light bulb going off.

Summa (=ultimate)

Fenestra (=window)

Hey Frank--if you're on the Latin thing... a while back, I suggested Veritas.  (Latin, for Truth.)  Truth in fidelity; truth in music; truth in advertising; truth in the fact that it's an American product...

Just re-tossing it out there.

Clarus from Latin. I especially like the "poet., of the wind" reference.

clarus -a -um [bright , clear, distinct]; poet., of the wind, [making clear, bringing fair weather]. Transf., to the understanding, [clear, evident, plain]; of reputation, [illustrious, distinguished]; in bad sense, [notorious]. Hence adj. clare, [clearly, brightly, distinctly; illustriously].

An aside. Its a testement to the reputation of Frank that its bringing new, and seldom, posters out of the woodwork at the prospect of winning a Van Alstine component. Kudos Frank!  :green:

Clarus means both clear and famous or illustrious; it was often used to describe people, but nothing wrong with a clear and illustrious piece of audio gear.  But there seem to be a lot of companies called Clarus this or that, after a google search.

As for Clarity..

Why not

Or "Crystal" series

"lucidity" Series = Transparent, clear.. free from obscurity and easy to understand

if everybody wants simple to the point

What's the big deal with using a name that has been used by someone else before?
Are there concerns about plagiarism and getting sued?

there is no big deal of using an existing name, however Frank specifically asked several times already in this thread to please research your name, and also please expose products already using them if you know.. So when I see ones I know exist I throw it out there as he asked, not me...

They might chose to use an existing product name, who knows, but I believe its more about who they have the correlation with if they do use one out there on a product already.. I can agree with that, plus confusion can occur and at least it is understood why upfront.
