There’s a difference between using a portion of text responsibly and irresponsibly.  Moreover, it is a matter of AC policy that “When using the "quote" button, please edit the quote to remove unnecessary text.”

If the quoted portions of text had been gleaned from another thread, or taken from a post not written recently, I’d agree with you.  Also it’s not like anyone reading any given thread has to see the complete context of a brief quote posted and reposted.

To get off on a tangent, I am offended by Satfrat's use of commas in lieu of the ellipsis…  It's not like it keeps me up at night or anything, but it does really bug me.  What's up with that?  Those hideous commas seem far more grating than Zybar's insidious, violent, hateful and racist comments directed at SP Tech speakers and how dead shitty they sound and how Bob ought to be thrown into a chipper shredder.  Zybar may destroy a company and a man's livelihood with his careless and evil opinions, but what about the destruction of the English language at the hands of Satfrat?  It seems far more odious to me,,,,that goes beyond the bounds of vendor circles,,,,and into the very fabric of our lives as internet communicators,,,,,,,

You know of course George's quote DID come from a different thread...and without the last 3 sentances it completely changes the meaning of his post.  It changes it from SP Tech speakers suck, to "as a whole his system changed for the worse and I have no idea what component(s) caused it."

By golly, you're right!  However anyone reading this thread will have seen a few links back to the original thread.  Thus if they really cared about the issue, it is apparent that the full context is anything but obscured.

Moreover, because this is such a hot and immediate topic, no one can honestly say they are in the dark.

I'm still puzzled by that logic. Then why post anything about the sound of my system at all, especially in the SP Tech Forum?   Again in the context of the "discussion" in the thread, it was, IMO, an attempt to challenge DU's post. To me the last three sentences were no doubt honest, but more or less an act of diplomacy 

If I heard George's system and thought it took "a major step backwards" but couldn't contribute it to one particular component, but posted my opinion of it in the "Omega" or "Emerald Physics" speaker circle (as is in the current context of the SP thread) I'm sure inferences would and could be drawn..........

I'm not sure I get the point of this thread.  If a vendor doesn't like something posted in his thread he can just remove it.  That could make him look worse than the original offending comments did, i.e. like a censorious chicken.  But George's comment shouldn't come anywhere near the kind of thing to cause umbrage (imo).  In other words if you're going to maintain a public forum about your products you ought to be able to take the good along with the bad, and it looks like Bob Smith is fine with that, and doesn't need over-sensitive audio mavens rushing to his defense.  Your product wouldn't have a forum here if it weren't already well-received by a lot of people, so the forums inevitably become more about getting out the good word than putting your stuff on trial, and the rest is subjectivity.  And again, if something is overtly in poor taste, bad faith, truly bad for marketing, etc, the vendor can just delete it.

I think JohnR once posted a metaphor that AC is a really big dinner party and we should all act as guests.  It seems that would prevent lots of problems, maybe at the cost of some candidness.  But I doubt we'd lose much worthy content.

Your system was being discussed in a particular circle..George didn't start the discussion and I can only guess he thought had something of value to add.  He went out of his way to say he didn't know why he didn't like your system as well now.  If he had left that out, I would say your are absolutely correct in your assessment.

With the addition of his last 3 sentences, it made what he said meaningless (or it should have) to all but those that have heard your system.
