an apology from the geographically challenged -

Evox/Rifa caps are from Sweeden (though the Rifa 850s are beautiifully specified), which narrows my WAG as to what the EVo is using to the Germanic Vishay/Rhoderstein (formerly Epcos/Seimens) MKP1841[M]/1846. They're carried in the States by www.Mouser.com. The PDFs are available at that site. At retail, they're substantially more expensive than that cuppa, mentioned in the 6Moons article.


PS - please note that the Rifa and Vishay caps mentioned are not suggested (by me) for audio coupling, only for their intended use of high current, hf filtering, decoupling and snubbing.

Based upon specifcations alone, which may have no bearing on subjective qualities I'd start by replacing the .1uf filter caps with PHE450 630VDC/400VAC model #PHE450MB6100JR06. One would have to evaluate the necessity of of keepiing, or upgrading, the associated, extant bypass caps. No, I've no idea as to where you could source these caps.

I have analyzed the output filter caps, the .1 uFd's, if this is what you are referring to.  They are actually very high quality polypropylenes with very high Q's.  I doubt if you will do much better with other brands.

Also, are the output filter toroids the same physical size on the ZR1600 and Z1000? (and the ZR500)?

They are probably an Asian make, .1 UFd, 250V Polypropylenes, but they only need to be 100V.

They are all populated in both versions according to the schematic.

Also, are the output filter toroids the same physical size on the ZR1600 and Z1000? (and the ZR500)?
I have never seen a Z1000, but the schematic suggests that they are the same.

The 60x60x25 MM Papst 612NGL - Constant Velocity Fan does not seem to have a US distributor any longer.  I've found others, such as this:

as an FYI allelectronics currently has some Nidec Beta fans that might meet your needs. These are 17.2dba and 12cfm and quite inexpensive @$3.75/ea.

Is there an easy way to further crank down the output of the ZR 1600.  I've changed the jumper settings on the circuit board, but need to get another - 8 to -10 db quieter.

I maybe have a bad cap in right channel so I thought I'd break the entire amp and try this. Fed signal directly to the caps under the tunnel and didn't remove them.Removed input module. Now I got clip but no signal also have high pass lights and limiter too. So ther I go.

removed caps (more or less) fed raw signal to pins 5,6 also. Tested on a Polk monitor 5 with the midrange removed and howdy something loud was coming out the tweeter but it wasn't lets go crazy. Guess I'd say this thread is a discussion, not instructions but at least I'm closer to being done with this thing. Bass is upsetting, and highs highs not much better. Sure OP's feel silly investing any energy into it.
