4B-ST with DNM speaker cable
« on: 22 Apr 2008, 02:48 pm »
Will I harm my amp if I use the DNM speaker cable?  It is small gauge (approx 20 ga) constantly spaced solid-core cable.  I'm trying it out and sounds very good, but does it make the amp work "too hard"?   The DNM dealer says it is no problem and he uses it for all his demo speakers.

Thank you.

Hi tcmo,

It will not harm the 4B but 20ga is pretty high (thin) so keep the length as short as possible. We typically recommend 12ga and in our studio installations we use 9ga.

Thank you for the reply.  I am using 6 ft lengths.  I'll use it for a while, then maybe change.  It was an experiment using solid-core speaker wire and it was not that expensive.

I use 10 ga Belden in 6 ft. lengths per channel. Is this too long? Also, no need to bi-wire, true?

I used DNM with my Bryston B100 today.
It worked fine.
Sound was mellow - transients and dynamics were reduced - could be good with bright speakers/room.
