OB-7 Kit Build
« on: 5 Apr 2008, 08:08 pm »
Well armed with little experience and just enough power tools to be dangerious, "I give you my OB-7 build!" Yeah!
Had some serious cold feet a few days ago as I was about to delever My Strata Mini's to their new home, but regained composure and "here we go". Called Danny and ordered kit with woofer upgrade since my room is approx 18x30.
Wish the budget allowed for Denny the master but must go this on my own.
My first challange is I ordered some walnut veneer and thinking all veneer was paper backed, to my surprize it's raw. Come to find out the best and only application for raw is the press:(
So I am going to try the iron method and see how that goes. Any input?

Without further ado, I give you 49.5" of Sonic Bliss! :green:

Or should I say delicious effervescent's.

Well a little more progress.........

Nice slant to cabinet but no 3 degree tilt:(
But I like the look, and am happy with the way cabinets are turning out.

So I have added no-rez to cabinets but where does the jury stand on acousticstuff poly stuffing?
Add in addition to no-rez or dont add? I think I remember reading half bag per but wanted to confirm.  :green:

I cut the first cabinet by hand and then I remembered the Ninja saying no-rez cuts well on table saw. The second cabinet went really fast using the table saw.

Well I wish I knew how these sound but still waiting on a couple of caps to complete XO's. If looks are any indication, these will be killer.

Thanks. I was having a problem with finishes darkening the wood more than desired. I stopped at woodcraft and guy reccomended gloss lacquer to keep wood as light as possible. I used several coats gloss and toned it down with a semi-gloss coat. Deft in spray can works very well. I tried truck bed liner for the cabinet but went with flat black with semi lacquer top coat.

Nick,

Very nice project!

I couldn't help notice that you have some Onix Rockets in your picture.  Do you think the BG Tweeter would fit in that speaker?

Congrats and thanks,

Robert
