possible trade

Hi all,

Well, I'd like to take the plunge in to the tube preamp world. I am just putting out feelers to see what might happen here. So I have the following for possible trade. I am specifically looking for either a Grounded Grid preamp, or a Audio Symphony plus preamp, or an AES 3 preamp. All of them have low output impedances. I am willing to trade my TVC rev. 3 transformer, with 2 In and 2 Out Silver RCAs, with  the standard top and bottom steel plate with Ebony knobs. These do have the BHP on the transformers.

I also have a Linn 75w LK2 amplifier which put together with the TVC sounds pretty good. I think the TVC by itself should be pretty much a straight across trade for any of the specific preamps.

Either PM me or email me directly:

raybronk@comcast.net

I am not sure which way to go here, so any advice too is ok. The preamp has to have a low output impedance at or under 800 ohms.

what is your budget?

the top melos was the ma333r; depending on condition/refurb/mods, the price can wary from a little as ~$1k, (i only saw one at this price, a steal, imo), to as much as ~$2500.  the line-stage is a two-box true dual-mono affair, w/a third box for optional fono stage.  awailable either single-ended (6 outs) or balanced (3 outs).  remote control, wolume/balance, except for the early ma333's.  at the wery end of the run, there was the music director, which was the same pre, but w/more reliable (and slightly less transparent) alps pots in lieu of the photentiometer pots.

then, there's the sha-gold & sha-gold-r, a single-box iteration of the ma333r, w/a built-in headfone amp.  at its end, it was the maestro, same alps pot thing as the music director.  these can run from ~$600-$1200.  these are remote wolume/balance.  also offer ability to run passive, but i never heard anyone who thought it was better than running active.

then, there's the sha-1 which is the famed melos headfone amp w/either 1/2/3 line inputs, depending on when made.  this is a simple no-frills preamp that sounds fantastic; (the sha-gold was a full-function iteration of this), & usually goes for ~$500...  no remote..

there are other older melos preamps awailable, i am not that familiar w/all the different iterations, but they are all excellent performers, imo...

one sha-gold presently shown on agon:
