The tweeter is hardwired to a 4ft twisted pair of our teflon silverplate 20gauge wire with bare ends.  We will supply spades, bananas, or dual bananas for stacking as desired.  User places the tweeter, cuts the wire to length, and adds terminals himself.

I have a pair of RM-30C's, rosewood finish (gorgeous), that sit front and center in the living room.
In the interest of aesthetic preservation, how about the notion of installing a pair of tweeters directly into the back of the speaker?
I realize this eliminates the possibility of playing around with placement, but I really want to maintain the clean look I have, and I'm comfortable with the woodworking aspect.
I see Parts Express has the Aurum Canton G2Si on sale for $70-- is this the same tweeter as the FST tweeter?

Hi Rickkuy,

In Brian's original post to me about the Ambience Tweeter, he said:

Quote
I want to offer an add-on ambience tweeter for our speakers that is freestanding and complete with crossover and user-adjustable level.  This can stand on top of a speaker or be attached to the back baffle with double-sided tape.  It consists of our spiral ribbon tweeter with a 5kHz xover builtin mounted in a black MDF enclosure 4x4x1.5" deep

I might add that it could be placed on a high skinny speaker stand behind your RM30's, or you could make an L-angle to hang it to the top rear edge on the back of the speaker.

Of course you could perfrom surgery on your rear baffle, but installing the tweeter "in cabinet", would involve buiding an enclosure to mount behind the tweeter also (as is behind the main tweeter and MR panels)

If you are considering such surgery you might also find less bother in drilling a single hole in the rear (which could be easily sealed if need be) and mounting the tweeters to the rear that way.

The tweeter used is the "sprial ribbon".  The G2si is probably "overkill" and would cost $140 just for a pair of drivers.

Brian of course could add far more detail to what might be nessessary.

If you have the tools to cut through 1.5" of back baffle cleanly, you can wire a G2si in parallel with the FST (basically the same tweeter) and simply double the cap value and halve the coil value.  This is a lot of work and if you make a mistake, the cabinet is ruined. Not even the factory will do this for you.

The G2si is too heavy and bulky for the "sticky tweeter" concept of the ambience tweeter.

I'm looking foreword to seing a picture of this "sticky tweeter" so I might get an idea on how I'd mount it and how much leaway I'll have angling the tweeter on the side of my loudspeaker. I might want to look for some sort of a wedge,,,,

Cheers,
Robin

John/Brian-- Thanks for the info. I reckon a little black box stuck to the back of the speaker, especially at 1.25" depth, wouldn't be a big blemish. I look forward to getting a pair of these!

Brian or John --

Did the enclosures for the ambience tweeter arrive yet?

Also, what effect would aiming this tweeter forward have, especially if one already has a spiral ribbon tweeter? Kinda like some of the RM2's that were built with dual spiral ribbon tweeters.

Thanks.

The forward firing idea is not one that had occured to me, and I don't know how it would manifest itself as comb filtering, but it might offer some "tinkle" to those who always talk about standing and listening. :green:

As it turns out B, posted me that he returned the first order of "boxes" he received, and just received the second.

However he still was not satisfied with the "look", so he is having them painted this weekend to hopefully build and ship (if dry enough) by the end of next week.

Hopefully at that time he can get that digital camera working too.

B wanted to thank everyone for all Ambiance Tweeter orders.

However his cabinet search increased his costs, so in order to "break even" he said all orders until May 30, will be $169 plus shipping ($10).

June 1st they will be the normal price of $249 plus shipping.

Well Brian sure keeps his ear to the feedback from customers :thumb:

As many know we like to make a product that allows you to tailor the "sound" you want.

Some want bold reality.

Others want HUGE encompassing Sound

Some like "open and airy"

And still more want "warm silky detail" and on and on.

With adjustments to the tweeter and MR available, and Bass damping too, we seemed to have it all covered.

But, there are some who like to have an even greater ability to "shape" their sonic virtues.

Recently one of our long time supporters (Jonbee) mentioned that he used an "ambience" tweeter to give him the sound shape he liked.  The openness and air that a rear facing tweeter can bring to the sound is well known.

Brian has in the past even used this in some designs.

Well to meet those preferences, we now offer the AMBIENCE ADD-ON TWEETER

This then is an add-on ambiance tweeter usable with "all" our speakers (except the RM v60) that is freestanding and complete with crossover and user-adjustable level control.

This can stand on top of a speaker or be attached to the back baffle with double-sided tape.  It consists of our spiral ribbon tweeter with a 5kHz xover built-in mounted in a black MDF enclosure 4x4x1.5" deep.

Introductory Special Price is $169pr.  (MSRP = $249)

It simply plugs in to the back of any speaker we make. The user can direct its output to the rear or side wall, or even the ceiling depending on room acoustics and his tastes.

Rear facing will have the sonic virtue of creating more airy depth to the sound.

Side firing will offer wider appearing soundstages

Ceiling orientation will create a bit of height to the stage.

Brian will include this tweeter in the SDE versions of the RM30, RM40 and RM2 at no extra charge for the next 90 days, (till May 30th) thereafter $129pr additional for the built in option.

The built-in ambiance tweeter is flush with the back baffle and fires rearward.

This is also GREAT for the L&R Mains and Surround speakers for HT use.

The user adjustable volume control allows you to achieve that "perfect" blend.

Introductory Pricing = $169 (MSRP will be $249)

Or

Built in to your new speakers = No Charge till after May 15th then $129.

"Ambience Tweeter" blue and green wires?

Does it matter which terminal the blue and green wires that came on my ambience tweeter are connected to positive or negative?

Green is positive, blue is negative.
