Hi, I have four pulled 7247s and looking through tube guides it says a 12 AX7 can be used for a 7247 but not a 7247 into a 12ax7 spot- is this correct?

Please don't stick that in a 12AX7 slot!  The 7247 is literally half of a 12AX7 and half of a 12AU7, and should be used only in applications designed for a 7247.  While some guitar folks will arbitrarily mix 12A*7 twin triodes in their amps, it generally won't lead to anything good in an audio application.
