your best musical find of the year?

For me, it has to be Gary Jules. His cover of "Mad World" just kills me. One of the best songs I've ever heard. I really like his original stuff too. I'm not sure when this came out but I only found it earlier this year.

I probably bought a dozen copies and sent to friends I knew would dig it.

I've got Gary's  2 earlier albums, Greetings From The Side and Trading Snakeoil For Wolftickets. Both are excellent recording from a songwriter that deserves more exposure.  :)

I picked up several excellent/favorite cd's this year, though my best new find would probably have to be Global Rhythm Magazine (thanks to mjoseph), the samplers have been leading me in many new directions  :thumb:

I'm not a country fan but I simply lov this gal: Gretchen Peters: Burnt Toast & Offerings (2007).

Marcus Miller. Silver Rain is indescribable! (another tip of the hat to mjosef).
Been out of touch with searching out much new music (and gear) for a decade or so, this forum is a great help.
Thanks!

Hey!

Well, there is still a few more days until the end of the year.

Anyway, there are actually 3 albums that I picked up and really like. To choose one is tough. But if I have to do it than it would be the latest one...

I found out about them thanks to Korbel Champagne's TV commercial and a little research on the internet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vwEpnkCnWM

Yup, that little 30 sec. commercial got me hook on that tune.  :D

Anyway, this female lead vocal trip-hop with 60's jazz plus James Bond spy inspired sound really hit me. Pretty cool  The track that featured on the Korbel's commercial is "The Mating Game" With the lyric and that laid back and sexy vocal.  I have to say that this track is one of them most sensual and sexiest song I've heard so far.

Here is the MV of "The Mating Game"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VljGLcxA1U

Luckily all the tracks on the album are also very nice, enough that I could just let it spin from the first to the last track. Oh! The sound is also very good too.

For those who know me would know that I also this type of music. So, what do you think? Pretty cool eh?

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I was fortunate enough to stumble across a band called Weedeater at a listening station at Lou's Records. Their new album titled God Luck and Good Speed is great! I'm not sure what genre of music to put it in altough I've heard some describe it as stoner metal. Very cool and most highly recommended.

The Putamayo catalog.  Johnette Napoliatano, I remember her from Concrete Blonde.  Have to check this one out.  Carbon Glacier- Laura Viers, floats my (hopelessly romantic) boat.

Joe Weed and the Vultures.  I read about on AC, and found it at CD Baby.  Great guitar, great recording and my kind of music (Wipeout, Rebel Rouser, Pipeline).  It is one of the reasons that I so enjoy AC; I learn so much!

I'd typically describe my best finds not by the album but by the artists.  This is because I typically find an artist that has already written a few albums and then when I love one of their albums I buy their catalog.   So my best finds this year are...

Silversun Pickups
Okkervil River
The National
M Ward
Iron and Wine might have been this year, or last, can't remember

Porcupine Tree - 'In Absentia' and 'Fear Of A Blank Planet'. I am a prog and fusion veteran and this stuff blows me away.

If you like those, also try Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream....it is one of their better ones along with In Absentia.
