Great Jazz CD's

:D I'll start.  Well obviously I'll start ... hehe...
So ... well lets jazz up this here thread shall we!!!

This CD is called "Natsange med Josefine Cronholm (Sweden)." Or Nightsongs with J C if you want the English version..

It is superb!!! From the year 2000.
 :thumb:
The man behind this CD is Frans Bak

On this image Josefine is singing "Kil-Ma-Nin-Jæ" . Marilyn Mazur (New York/Denmark) on drums back there.

This song is something to behold!
Thunderously lovely!

Drums, African drums, Didgeridoo-like Saxophone playing, Choir, bells, triangle, sticks, standing bass, floating rides and chrashes, piano played percussively... Ah! Scat like singing by Josefine!!! And Swedish song lyrics with a almost Blueslike text!  :singing:

Hi Imperial, usually I find these threads a month after it starts. Nice topic!

This is one of my favorites:

Basie Band at their very peak an 1952. Maybe the best beboppy big band ever? Myth says fans used to stand outside Birdland with line going 3 blocks to get into see Basie. Birdland would send out coffee in wintertime.

I heard samples of The Magic Hour a couple years ago on Amazon and vowed to buy it, but it slipped through the cracks.  I'll put it back on my wish list, now.  Thanks for reminding me.

One of my favorites lately is "Freedom's Serenade" by guitarist Ronald Muldrow. Nothing avante or cutting edge here, just a really fun disc to listen to. Some really sweet mid tempo jazz grooves. I first heard a couple cuts listening to radio jazz show "Jazz With Bob Parlocha" and had to get a copy. Guitar, vibes, Piano (Mulgrew Miller), bass (Peter Washington), and drums. Nice tunes.

If you're into Hammond B-3 and guitar organ trios "Diggin In" by Jake Langley is a great disc. Joey DeFracesco is on the B-3. Langley like Muldrow is another artist I can't believe I had never heard of before. Found this disc via Parlocha's radio show as well. So much talent out there that remains to be heard!

Free For All- Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers (Blue Note).  Blakey is all up Wayne Shorter's backside on the opening track.  Relentless.  Shorter can't or won't quit.  He delivers and then some!  Kenny Barron- Live at Fat Tuesdays, New York City (enja).  Clean cookin with gas!  Requiem- Branford Marsalis (Columbia).  Tokyo Blues- Horace Silver Quintet (Blue Note).  My Favorite Things- Coltrane (Atlantic).  Can't help myself.  I've loved this to this day.

On second thought (and after having listened again), Crazy People Music for Branford Marsalis instead of Requiem.  Plus, The Sermon- Jimmy Smith (Blue Note), Three Quartets- Chick Corea (Warner Bros), and Freedom Sound- The Jazz Crusaders (Capitol).

If you are interested in current jazz artist releases, you must check out Eric Miyashiro City of Brass.
It is a 2003 CD released only in Japan, but if you do a search on google, you should be able to find a retailer that has it for USA sales.
Not only is the recording "in phase" the musicians and mastering are outstanding.
If you like modern big band jazz, especially trumpet and flugelhorn sound, this is one for you all.
Cheers.

I recently picked up the remastered set of Bill Evans Live at the Village Vanguard (3 CD box).  Sounds great!  (It's a 20-bit "K2 Super Coding" CD.  Whether K2 is the Second (or Third?) Coming of digital or not, it certainly sounds better than my old "Waltz for Debby" CD.)
