Check out the Networked Media Tank at http://www.popcornhour.com/
There are a lot of buzz on the internet about this new device.

Do you want one with enhanced audio quality, internal CD/DVD drive and HD?

By the way, there is a very long queue (>1000 long) at the website for the device.  You can pre-order from us for 3rd week of Nov shipping at the same price plus $10 for shipping and handling ($40 for international order).

Jason,
I am interested in this product as I was planning to get a Squeezebox.
Could you please develop a bit more about how it works?
From the website I am failing to understand the practicality: It does not seem to accept FLAC, which is vital for me. Also what sort of interface does it use? I suppose it needs an external hard drive. Is it oriented both for music and video?

This looks like a cool product for my HT.  I have been digitizing old video tapes and storing them on a NAS.  I can use this on my HT to play those directly on TV.  From what I can see it doesn't support .flac but I will check out the audio section and compare to SB.   How do I preorder?

The Community link at the top of the PopCornHour home page leads you to a LOT more information about this product :D.

It needs FLAC but being able to install your own disc is a nice touch.

An internal drive to get music on to it would be a good idea too.

The FLAC support is being added in the next software upgrade, before end of 2007.

The point of this product is we think it's the most versatile networked audio and video playback device, with huge computing power (300MIPS DSP engine), and with the S/PDIF output, it works flawlessly with AVP17 as well as our upcoming (2008) high-performance DAC.

Most of the focus and online buzz are about the video, but the networked audio capability is very cool.  For example, you can use the NMT (Networked Media Tank) to go to websites such as Jamendo and listen to high-quality streaming music right away.

We are building a trusted brand, a service, and a community.  Therefore if we find products that are interesting and/or complementary to our products, we will recommend them. Sometimes we resell a product as a service to our customers even when there is no profit margin in it.

Oppo HDMI switcher is another example of that.

This idea is one of the main things I like about NuForce...a refreshing change from the status quo.

That said, how do you feel this Popcorn Hour device will complement your upcoming music server? If you were to offer mods to it, I would put a premium on audio (digital out), and maybe component video (can you do much with HDMI?). This is something I'll be keeping an eye on, for sure!

NuForce team,

From what I gather the company had some supply issues with the launch...do you still plan on getting them in later this month? I'm planning on buying one...looks too cool!

Yes, they are being overwhelmed with orders!  We ordered 20 units for end of November/early December shipment.  I think there are about 1000 people waiting in line but you can jump way ahead of the queue by ordering from us.

We are evaluating the technology and trying to figure out what's best to offer a high-end (but not high price) version to customers.

You can purchase this device online at http://www.nuforce.com/Product-Online-AV.htm.
We should have it in stock sometime this week. Note that we'll authorize the charge on your CC but will not charge it until the item is ready for shipping.
