I am running a SB3 to a D-Link DI-624M router wireless, then wireless to a Dell PC running Slimserver software with Apple Lossless files.  I find my SB drops/blips when my Amana Microwave is on high.  It usually comes back as soon as the microwave finishes, but it wreaks havoc when it's on high.  I do notice I am unable to fast forward or reverse within a track for some reason.  I was wondering if anyone experiences either of these phenomenoms?   The rest of the time, the wireless stream seems to be rock solid.

The wireless card doesn't turn off when an Ethernet cable is plugged in.

You have to go through the network set up using the SB remote control on each SB. Choose wired connection vs wireless. That will turn off the power going to the wireless card. You can also simply remove the wireless card from the SB.

The two common noise producers from an SB are the VFD display and the wireless card. You can turn the display brightness down to reduce some of the VFD noise. You can use the wired connection to eliminate any noise from the wireless card.

Rootman,

Your microwave is leaking energy in the 2.4Ghz band disrupting your wireless SB. This happens to be fairly common. Change to wired and you will have no interference.

If you are transcoding your files, you will not be able to FF or RWD.

Wireless networks are notorious for dropping out when older microwave ovens are in use.  It also sometimes happens to older 2.4Ghz telephones, too.

You cannot fast forward or rewind within a song if the file format is Apple Lossless.  SB (and Transporter) does not decode Apple Lossless natively, and as such, it cannot handle those functions....

Wayne and Phil, thanks for the info.  Interesting that my 2.4 phone also can cause problems.    I was not aware Apple Lossless could not FF/RWD.

Nor can any compressed format natively (like FLAC).  It needs to be decoded on the fly.  May not be worth the network traffic, though.  Not a big deal, unless you ff/rew "within" the song.  You can still skip ahead, skip back, song-at-a-time, of course.

You sure 'bout that?  I thought any natively-read program could be fast-forwarded unless you decide to decompress at the computer level (as many of us have).

IOW, as long as you let the SB or Transporter do the work, any native format can be manipulated (FF, REV, etc.), or so I understood.

My bad, my bad.  Today is our fiscal year end and my brain is imploding.

SB only supports ff/rw with native file formats (mp3, wav, flac), not with any transcoding.  Since SB doesn't have native support for Aplle Lossless and several others, transcoding is necessary, and therefore mucks up the ability to ff/rw within a song.  Not missing much, though, when it does work it's archaic.
