"an educated consumer is our best customer!"

That was a television advertisement line from an American apparel company during the 1950's.

And it applies just as much to Red Wine Audio products in 2007... and beyond.

Warmest Regards ~ Richard

Thanks, Richard!
I'm sure Vinnie gets tired of explaining basic audio stuff -- never mind the electrical theory, electronic parts, etc. which make up his daily life!  On the other hand, I'm trying to understand where he's coming from, where he's going, and what his vision is.  The Isabella kind of opened my eyes to what he is trying to do, in terms of taking the entire system "off the grid", and he's creating each of the components he feels are needed to complete this vision.  I'm definitely buying into it!  I don't know where he'll take us in a year or two (it seems the guy's mind is out there about two generations of equipment ahead), but I'm ready to board the bus, and get my ticket punched...

With all of the potential sound "degraders" you are systematically removing (or improving) in the process, how important to the system do interconnects and speaker cables become?  With all of your expertise and talent focused on refining the sound, it seems these connections become even more important, since these become the only part of the entire system (if one purchases a modded Olive, an Isabella, and a Signature 30.2) that are outside of RWA's control...

Hi George,

This is a good point, but the biggest factor to the sound that is outside of the RWA system is the speakers and the listening room.  IMO, these will have a much greater influence on the sound than the cables!

I am not saying that the cables don't matter.  They are in the signal path.  You want to make sure your connections are always secure and contacts are clean.  With a high-end system, you will probably be able to hear differences (maybe subtle, maybe not-so-subtle) when you switch cables and interconnects.

However... what I am saying is that if you have an extra lump of cash to spend, put this towards speakers and/or room treatments!

Also, I went to the Olive site, and it seems their product line has dropped the "Musica" and "Symphony" labels.  Are you modding the older products, or the newer Opus No.3?  Is there any inherent advantage, from your perspective, to the "S" model ("perpendicular recording technology")?

The Symphony is now called the Opus No.3S, and the Musica is now called the Opus No.3.
They are identical and I am still modding these units (I'll be updating my website soon with the new info for the Sig 30.2, 70.2, Olive mods, etc.)

The perpendicular recording technology use a more power efficient 2.5" (laptop) hard drive instead of a 3.5" drive.  This drive is a little more quiet, but it is not significant.  It also uses less power (which is good for the Olive modded with the internal battery, but if you go with a larger external battery, the extra power efficiency is not as important).

It is my job to explain my products to my customers, to answer question, to help you make informed decisions, etc.... please don't ever feel like it is a bother to me.  Your questions are very good and they benefit others who read these posts.

Best regards,
