my tube Aspen preamp of wood is ready :D :D

well

It was worth the wait

Romeo Tiu has assembled a complete GK-1 for me based on my rudimentary suggestions
the art side of the boxes is truly Romeo style, but i am very happy with it.
I wanted  solid spruce enclosures and the GK-1 in mono fashion. That  means 4 boxes!!
2x main preamp and 2x separate transformers.

I use the GK-1 as a luxury version of the TLP, so no gain control knob. The resistors to replace the pot are chosen for 0 db gain

I have upgraded the pcb with C19 ( Sonicap Platinum) and the output cap ( the redDynamicap)  The input cap C1 is repaced by a small wire as my DEQX (preamp) before the GK-1 has already Dynamicaps as output caps
the C2 mod (BG's) I still have to do

The pcb is hard pressed with the screws "into" the soft spruce board so the resonance of the pcb is controlled by the wood
look how elegant the green light from the green led is "led" outside by a plastic bridge

rest of pictures is in my gallery  http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;area=browse;user=2468

What i still have to do is to varnish the wood with natural varnish and i have some little extra  iideas

the adding of the GK-1 is wonderful and made the sound more transparent even after 24hrs only cap break in
With good designed gear, more is not less, the opposite. A revieuw will come in due time

Kyrill, Rom,

This is BOOTIFUL work!!     Just wonderful - and Rom, your careful hand assembly of the board is, as we've come to see from you, masterful, the work of someone very highly experienced and tending to every little detail.  I LOVE the light tube for the LED, it's just magnificent!

The boxes are really nice;  this will probably be the quietest GK1 ever built!!

Rom, your kindness building this for Kyrill is a legend in our little Aspen community.  Thank you on my behalf, and thanks also to Kyrill for his generosity sharing his ideas and for his trust and confidence in us both.

Kyrill, that's a very lovely house you have there, love those windows, very classy!!

I'm actually converting a Swift for a Melbourne customer on Saturday to teflon Platinums, a small supply of which I procured during the week.

Cheers,

Hugh

Kyrill/Rom ... nice job!  :thumb:

If you are interested in experimenting further with vibration reduction of the PCB's, try placing a thin layer of reasonably dense closed cell foam (or vinyl) between the PCB and box, tightening the PCB down enough to lightly compress it.

Kyrill and Rom, it is wonderful when hifi gear blends so well, looking like well crafted furniture that is functional as well! Congratulations!

Now I have some excellent ideas for my "naked" Altmann Attraction DAC! Rom, prepared to take the challenge?

Best Regards

hi ppl
thx for the compliments

those windows are not windows to the outside but to the other rooms ( my listenin groom for instance) otherwise the wall would be so massive.

Denjo

my other tweaks still in the nearby future is to make two holes per side and one on the backside and two on the "floor"side as big as the hole of the protruding tube
None on the front side

This way no cavity resonance, Very important also for the AA Dac.
Then i will put Stillpoints ERS paper or fabrique in the box, the two sides and the floor to cover the holes. This will be visually pleasing. By a carpenter i will duplicate the upperboard ( the ceiling board) but it will be formed of two layers together just as thick but a hollow plane ( space) between the two but not visible on the outside. In it a sheet of ERS paper :)  Then it will be finished. The paper will have a too small or negligible effect on the resonances
also some paper in the transformer boxes

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for the kind words, sorry ,I don't have enough time to do another challenging work.

Hi DSK,

I do have some closed cell foam just incase the board will not lay flat on thw wood. I curved some spot on the wood like the filament wire so that the main board will lay flat.

Hugh,

As always, assembling the kit was the easy part. building the case is another.

Thanks for the kind word Lone, Jules and all.

ciao
