Love my eighth nerve treatments, but which Gik bass traps to add?

I'd like to try adding some bass trapping to my Eighth Nerve treated room to hear what all the fuss is about, but what do you buy first to get started?

The tri-traps look neat, but the 244 panels are a Hell of a LOT cheaper.  Even the monster bass traps are cheaper than the tri-traps.  And if you use say, a 244 panel with your 8th nerve stuff-- do you still straddle the corner with them?

Anyone have a combo like this--  Eighth Nerve and a bass trap or two?

Thanks.

Yup, I have 15 Adapts, 2- 244s and 2- tritraps - all great stuff.    I like the tritraps for corner use, they are much easier to place, stack, move around quickly. They stay in the floor corner without falling down. They are very versatile and work as well as 244s. The 244s are good for reflection points flat against the wall. They have a space behind the FG integrated into the frame design to improve absorbtion into lower freqs. when used flat against the wall. They have a strong wooden frame and hanging hooks standard to make wall installation easy. Of course they will work as bass traps in the corners too, but not as easy as tritrap, especially in weird corners with windows, or short wall, stacking, etc. Both are very powerful absorbers, so placement is important to get the most out of them, and fortunately Bryan and Glenn from GIK will provide ongoing support as long as you need it.

I can second the recommendation. I have one set of Adapt corners and Rectangles. Just recently added a pair of trip trap, made a big difference to the bass area.

Have 4 244 panels yet to be installed. Tri trap are so much easier to use, just put them down and you are done. It is visually less imposing as well. Good for WAF

I have had some good success so far in setting up my new room with just the eighth nerve stuff.  Love to try the adapts someday.  But for right now response will do.

Soooo..... it sounds like my best bet would be two tri-traps-- one in each front corner.
I really wish your recommendations were for 244's as they are like half the price of the tri-corners.  You say though I could use a pair though to straddle the front corners to save money though over the tri-corners, eh?

I should tell you also, that I have no panels on either front or rear walls. I have no need of them on the side-walls-- cause there are none!  I wonder if I should consider this as well.

There are large openings to each side wall--open doorways.  I am sure this is detrimental to something or other as regards frequency response, or at the very least, makes my room act like it is much bigger owing to communicating with two other spaces.

BTW-- what did you hear when you added the tri-traps to the eighth nerve stuff--- better defined deeper bass?

I think it's a matter of how much you want to pay for the incremental improvements. Due to my limitations, I can fit bass traps in only 1 corner of my room. I was initially thinking of only 1 Monster bass trap but Bryan recommends 2 tri traps as it doubles the surface area for absorption.

Since you can fit bass traps in both front corners, 244 may work fine. But I got to say the tri traps integrated into the room perfectly. You can hardly tell they are there. I would imagine 2x244 straddling the front corners would take up more room.

The improvement brought by two tri traps is not subtle. The amount of bass would thin out a bit but you will be able to hear the different pitches of bass, not just one note. For explosions, you will hear several individual tight blasts instead of one big BOOM.

During my research for acoustic treatments, I repeatedly read money spent on acoustic treatments has to most bang for the buck compared to any other equipment upgrades. I cannot agree more.

Imagine, I spent $300 for the two tri traps and the improvement is not any $300 pair of interconnect or speaker wires can bring.

The Tri Traps will reach the farthest into the deep bass - even moreso than the Monsters.  I'd start with a pair of Tri's.

Now, if you have additional issues that would be better dealt with via panels on wall or up high in horizontal corners (straddling), then the 244's would be your solution.

Also remember from a pricing standpoint, Tri Traps ship 2 in a box.  The Monster is only 1 in a box so you need to factor in the additional shipping (which generally makes 2 Tri Traps less expensive)

I love both products.  I have 6 GIK Tri-traps - 2 Monsters - 2 244's and 8 242's etc... 8th Nerve corners and seams.  We just moved into a new house and I tried my system without any panels.... YUCK!!!  The Tri-traps are excellent!  Here's a pic of them playing together happily ;)  I have the rear and side walls treated too.

I'll take some better ones - my digital isn't working properly.

Yeah, I've been to the Dragon many times,  we take the bikes up to north Georgia and rent a house once or twice a year for about 10 days.  We do all the roads in the area - Wolf Pen Gap(180) in Hiawassee is a fantastic road too - during the work week its deserted ;)  I sold my 06 Triumph Speed Triple in Feb.  No more bikes for me.  I have back problems and just hurt too much after a minutes...  After having been through 34 bikes its been kinda hard without one  :duh: :duh:

Truly beautiful-- ah-- the way the sunlight plays across the room-- and across the acoustic treatments.

Looks like you have stacked tri-traps in that picture with some 244's or 242 up there as well.

How come my room doesnt look like that with my eighth nerve stuff installed?  Just looks like someone stuck pillows on the walls in the corners.

No sunshine....  no beauty.   I think I need a pair of tri-traps-- maybe thats the problem.

Thanks   Your right, I have stacked tri-traps in the corners - monsters on the floor next to them - 2 244's behind the rack(covering the fire place) and 2 242 on the center wall.  It all works pretty good along with the 8th Nerve stuff.  I have 2 more tri-traps in the rear corners and 2 8th Nerve seams on the wall/ceiling junctions to the left and right of my listening chair. We have the windows tinted for UV protection but around 7:30pm-8pm its still little blinding, hehe..

Sounds like you might want to look at getting a Boxster  aa then. Not a bike but a ton of fun on the curves.

Ok back to acoustics.
