The midwoofer is proprietary, hence our own.
Actually from my standpoint that is preferable to an off-the-shelf woofer because I can control availability. There is nothing to stop a vendor from dropping or changing a product once its released. Its a frequent problem that vendors change the measured spec's on off-the-shelf products. They just don't do you the courtesy of changing the product name and letting you know.
Too true. My immediate concern was the idea of having drivers that go out of release again, though you're right in that the big vendors usually don't bother telling you about manufacturing variances and production changes, and there's no guarantee that some Vifa "Brand X" woofer will be available next year either.
On the other hand, it's hard to compete with well-known and effective products like the Seas tweeters (e.g. 27TBFCG). But if you do use standard parts, then you have people trying to knock off your kit design and now you're selling nothing but plans, which stinks.
I just am wondering what the new systems will look like in terms of parts. I never did get around to building an Exodus kit due to pricing on the 3-ways (and cash flow), but I'd still love a 3-way with the WR125's and a couple solid woofers. Ooooh.... and put it on top of a bass bin with a Shiva-X in it. Is this speaker porn?
