Please list CDPs with digital inputs and outputs
«

Like active speakers, I believe that the designer/manufacturer probably knows best with matching transports to DACs.
OTOH I'd like to add EQ, but keep it in the digital realm.
Any $1000 - 3000 USD CD players you know of (and could recommend) that have digital inputs?
thanks in advance

I've never heard of any CD player having a digital (audio) input. Even my Proceed PMDT, which has a card for stretching 4x3 to 16x9, does not have a digital audio input.

I remember Audio Aero had a DAC or CDP with such feature. It was once reviewed in 6Moons.
Another possibility would be the Audio Resolution, perhaps it will have it.
Other one might be some Wadias with the feature.
If you are looking for an input type of device, the Bel Canto DAC 3 might fit the bill nicely.
Want to go overboard? The new Naim Supernait has many digital inputs with a nice processor. It will certainly be an overkill.

The Slim Devices Transporter has digital ins and outs. It's not a "CD" player but it does play digital music and has a nice DAC inside.
Just a thought.

This one does
http://www.harmankardon.com/product_detail.aspx?Region=EUROPE&Country=GB&Language=ENG&cat=CDP&prod=HD%20970/230&sType=C
It has a (24 Bits/384 kHz Asynchronous Sample Rate Convertor) Don't know the price though it looks like it might be cheaper than $1000 if so sorry.

I think we might be cut from the same mold, as I have looked extensively into both active speakers AND cd players with digital inputs. Two that I am aware of:
California Audio Labs
, model is CL-15 (I think). If the model is wrong, just keep searching around, it is a single drawer unit that has volume control. Special orders could request balanced outputs. Unfortunately, no longer made.
Mark Levinson
, can't remember the #, maybe the 39 or 390 or 390S?. I believe there was an original version and also their updated version which is still in production. Like the CAL, is single disc, has volume control, and I think all versions had balanced outputs.
My plan was to get the Levinson, run a music server into the Levinson's digital inputs, and run the balanced
outs directly to active speakers. Kind of pricey for me though so I have to wait.

The Audio Aero Capitole has both a digital input (BNC) and several outputs including: TOSlink, AES/EBU, AT&T, BNC and can't remember if it had RCA SPDIF or not. If you get the version with the analog inputs you also end up with a very high end preamp in the process. I've seen them for $3k - $5 k on agon fairly regularly.
There is also a stand-alone Capitole DAC but I've never seen one on agon but new I think they're around $5k.

Quad makes a CDP with six digital inputs that falls within your price range.

Cambridge Audio 840C. I'm not sure about the other models, but I would put this on my list to audition if I were in the market.

Many of the Wadia all-in-one players have digital inputs. If you don't mind looking for used they can often be found on Audiogon, some models are in the range of your upper limit.

Thanks for all your inputs.
audio-heaven, the HK doesn't look like its available in the U.S.
grsimmon, my active speakers are single driver
grsimmon/jrebman, CAL and ML are out of my price range
EthanH, from what I've read the Quad inputs are post DAC (it acts as CDP and pre-amp)
stereocilia, the 840C looks quite promising, I'll look into it further
tonyptony, I haven't had good experiences with used CDPs and am very wary if price is a stretch

In the used marketplace, if you can find one, the Cary CD 303/200.
A superior player and has (if I remember correctly
) two digital ins, 1 optical & 1 coax. But definitely at least 1 digital in.
In good condition they go for $1800-$2000. I understand your hesitation about used, but if you find one from Kevin at Upscale Audio (he's a Cary dealer and gets them occasionally) he will stand behind it.

I second the Cambridge Audio 840C. It's at the top of my list to replace my Arcam FMJ CD23T. I think it's a steal for the technology and features. I'm hoping that JA will measure one for Stereophile.
I've owned a CA D500SE player for 6 years until one channel became very noisy earlier this year. I contacted Audio Plus Services (US distributor) and received the best service possible. I ended up giving the player away here at AC and picked up a new 340C as a replacement.
It's too bad that Bryston didn't provide digital inputs on their new CD player.

biker,
Kevin offered to sell me a replacement board for the Ah! Tjoeb 4000 I bought used, but wouldn't repair it, even after I told him I wasn't up to fixing it myself. I ended up selling it for parts.

Yeah, had a little talk with Uncle Kevvy last week about an amp/speaker synergy thing and some tube recommendations for said amp -- which he sells but which I did not get from him -- and he pretty much blew me off. I suppose he failed to consider that maybe I had or have some money to spend, and also that maybe his prima luna dialogue 2 was on my short list. Bottom line, Phil from Sonic Spirits was more than happy to tell me his impressions and I ordered my new amp from him this weekend.
This is the second (out of 2) times Kevin has blown me off as a mere annoyance and I guarantee I will not buy one more thing from him -- even if it is a tube I really want.
Now back to yur regularly scheduled thread...
(just had to vent a bit)
