« on: 18 Jul 2007, 11:03 pm »
hello fellow Gassers, really last minute here but I thought about having a few folks over this Friday, July20th.

My listening room is really quite small (we're in a condo) so I'll limit it to 6 if anyone is interested please PM me.

I thought anytime after 5:30.

                                                  Thanks, Merrev

I'm down, you want to PM me with your address so I can Mapquest it.  I have the M-165x/XT25 combo and OB2X dipole both ready for other ears :)

hi Sturg, I thought Stumpy's bbq would satisfy- it's a local place that always seems to get it right.  How about your bam?

Chris.

Thanks for having us out last night.  The food and company was excellent.

Thanks to Turbo for bringing his 2 project speakers.  It was interesting comparing the OB2X, the small 2 way project, and the Merlins.  Each had it's strengths though 3 very different sounds.

Great time, thanks so much for hosting Chris!

I really appreciate the feedback from everyone on my speakers, it felt pretty good that they were so well received :)  That'll give me more incentive to get going on the next 10 projects I have planned, haha.

See y'all Wednesday!

Thanks for the good time Chris. It was great to catch Ron before he exits to Texas. Nice to meet Turbo. We lose one, we gain one. Can't be that! Nice speaker shootout also!

As always I had a great time. Thanks for the invite Chris. Ron, glad I got to see you before you got out of here. We will leave it to you to carry the message of tube superiority  to the heathen hordes in the southern lands. Turbo, nice to meet another like us. It seems your illness is progressing at very rapid pace. (This is good) :green: I really like the monitors, very easy to listen to. Look forward to seeing you all Wed.

Chris,

Thanks for opening your house and hosting the mini-gathering  :thumb: Always great to get together with everybody plus we got to meet one of the newest guys, Turbo  :green:

Ron, glad I made it by to see you before you left. As I mentioned, expect to hear from me sometime in the future as my son and brother both live right in your (new) neck of the woods. Also, don't forget that you aren't alone down there. You've got the North Texas Audio Jam right in the DFW area. Heres a link to their Circle.

Chris,

Thanks also for your hospitality.  It was great to see you and the rest of the guys there for a little listening enjoyment before getting on the road.  With the time I'll spend on the highway in the next few weeks, I knew I should have installed those tube amps in the vehicle when I had the chance.

I really liked the music those Merlins produced with the VTL and the 7308 board in the preamp.  Especially with one side in pentode and the other channel in triode.  Was that to help balance the room?  And yes I know it was one of your "helpers" and not you.  One suggestion though is to keep chanting to yourself "Triode is good...triode is good" (both channels though).  :duh:

Turbo,

Thanks for bringing your speakers out to the mini gathering.  I was really impressed by the sounds each produced.  Each had their own special niche as someone already indicated.  I myself was a little partial to the mini-monitors.  I think it was Scott who said they were "easy to listen to" and I agree completely.

Reference the move to Texas:

We hope to be settled into a house about a year from now or less.  Looking forward to meeting up with another group of audiofoolsphiles such as myself.  In the mean time, it's apartment living again for me and traveling back to visit the family on a regular basis. Hope my downstairs neighbors will enjoy my system as much as I plan to enjoy it.  I wonder if they will be partial to the VTL's (both channels in triode mode) or with the Paramounts.

When/if you find youselves in the DFW area please feel free to contact me.

Thanks for all the money you guys helped me spend too...

See ya' when I see ya',

Ron

Hey Chris, I'd like to with your permission sometime measure those Merlins.  I'd like to try and find out what gives them their perceived dynamic presentation, they definately grab your attention!

Also I've already started working on the OB2X's to try and beef up their low-end.  They'll still be tuned high and intended to be integrated with a sub, but I'm going to try and give them a little more weight from about 120-200hz.

If y'all wanna see what I'm up to next, checkout the GR forum.  And while you're at it, I'd really appreciate it if you could leave a word or two about what you thought of my GR/Vifa monitors in this thread - http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=42558.0
