GK-1R motor pot speed reduction
« on: 8 Jul 2007, 08:08 am »
Hi Hugh,

After getting a new remote, I find that the GK-1R motorised volume pot moves a bit too far for each press of the volume up/down buttons.

This is obviously to do with the remote sending somewhat longish bursts of infrared, but unfortunately the bursts are not adjustable.

Fortunately, this would be fairly easy to remedy by slowing down the motorized volume pot in the GK-1R instead.

I suppose inserting an appropriately sized resistor in one of the leads to the motor will do the trick - or it could be done directly on the control PCB.

The question is: What would an appropriately sized resistor be to reduce speed by 50%?

Also, any caveats?

Hi Jens,

Good idea!!

Try 33R half watt.  Should drop it by around 1V.  Best value can only be found empirically, however.

Hope this helps,

Hugh

Thanks, Hugh! Will try that. Of course, for fine tuning, a little experimenting may be in place - but it's always easier when starting out with approximately the right value
