Advice on adding a pre-amp to a Wadia 850
« on: 1 Jul 2007, 03:57 am »
I am currently connecting my Wadia 850 direct to a pair of Acoustic Reality 1001 monoblocks.  I have previously sold off a CJ PV12 pre-amp as I find the direct connection no loss in Sound quality.  However,  I am trying to integrate my HT system into the 2 channel,  and thus again looking for a pre-amp with a HT bypass.  Any recommendation?  I am tired of switching out cables whenever I go from 2 channel to HT listening and vice versa.  But I am concerned of a pre-amp as it is adding another chain to the system.

The Dodd Audio battery powered tube pre-amp is easily one of the best ever made. It is reasonably priced and does have a home theater by-pass. Engaging the by-pass is pretty simple too. You just turn the pre-amp off and the input is connected to the home theater output.

What about a high quality switch vs. a preamp?

It would be cheaper and has the potential to be sound better.

Hi George

I am afraid I am not aware of such a device.  Can give me some examples? Thanks!

I second this unit.  I have it and for all I can tell, it is transparent.  A little on the expensive side, but it well crafted and definitely up to par with the Wadia.
